\"\"<\/a>Gov. Bill Richardson<\/a> is set today to unveil his universal health-care plan and participate in a union-sponsored candidate forum. <\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Democratic presidential candidate is getting attention because of a new article highlighting his funny television commercials. Also, several new polls show he\u2019s not gaining much traction outside the early primary states.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Richardson<\/st1:city> is scheduled to release his health-care plan this afternoon in a speech to a firefighter\u2019s union in Iowa<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cMy plan focuses on guaranteeing universal coverage, keeping down the cost of care for all and improving care in general,\u201d Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said in a news release. \u201cMy plan provides affordable health coverage choices to every American without raising taxes.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> has already unveiled a summary of the plan<\/a> but is expected to get into specifics today.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

The announcement is timed to coincide with the televised AFL-CIO Democratic presidential candidate forum<\/a>, which will be shown live on MSNBC<\/a> beginning at 5 p.m. MST. Each candidate submitted opening video statements that you can watch by clicking here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to talking about my plans for universal health care, the economy and jobs,\u201d Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said in a release. \u201cIt\u2019s an honor to be able to address so many of our nation\u2019s great working men and women.\u201d <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, an article today in The Politico<\/a> takes a look at \u201cRichardson<\/st1:city>\u2019s comedy tour\u201d in Iowa<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>. Richardson<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>\u2019s funny \u201cjob interview\u201d television ads have gained him a lot of attention there, and he\u2019s holding a series of events designed to play off the commercials. It\u2019s worth checking out just for the photograph of Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>. He isn\u2019t the most photogenic guy in the race, but this one is one the campaign should keep.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, new polls conducted by American Research Group<\/a> in California<\/a>, Alabama<\/a>, Missouri<\/a> and Georgia<\/a> have Richardson at between 3 and 5 percent \u2013 hovering around the margin of error \u2013 and not gaining much traction. Georgia<\/st1:country-region> hadn\u2019t previously been surveyed by the group, but Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> is up slightly in the other three states since the last times they were surveyed. Overall, however, he\u2019s not gaining a lot of ground there.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

With the exception of California<\/st1:state>, Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s goal isn\u2019t to gain a lot of traction in those states at this stage in the game. He\u2019s planning to focus on Iowa<\/st1:state> and New Hampshire<\/st1:state>, with a secondary focus on Nevada<\/st1:state> and California<\/st1:state>, believing that strong showings in Iowa<\/st1:state> and New Hampshire<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> will propel him to big gains in presidential nominating contests that follow, especially those in the West.<\/p>\n
