{"id":20259,"date":"2010-08-05T10:14:30","date_gmt":"2010-08-05T16:14:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/?p=20259"},"modified":"2010-08-05T15:31:45","modified_gmt":"2010-08-05T21:31:45","slug":"video-dazy-daisy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2010\/08\/video-dazy-daisy\/","title":{"rendered":"VIDEO: Daisy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more-->As we enter August and head toward the 2010 General, we should all prepare ourselves for the barrage of political ads that are about to attack our flat screens.<\/p>\n<p>Get ready, this is going to be a vicious cycle.<\/p>\n<p>The political ad is actually an art.\u00a0In a few rare cases, it qualifies as great art a la van Gogh.\u00a0In other cases, not-so much. Think hard here. Unlike a steamy movie, I bet there are very few political ads that vividly run across your mind (just because&#8230;).<\/p>\n<p>So, what\u2019s in a political ad?\u00a0Oh, you know, the typical boasting, over-promising, and never-ending mudslinging.\u00a0There are candidates kissing babies. There are candidates sitting in green grass with their incredibly smiley families.\u00a0There are catchy sound bites and\u00a0cutesy slogans. There are shots of America&#8217;s most pathetic and down-trodden.\u00a0All of this is supposed to invite our vote.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been a while since we\u2019ve been truly shocked by a campaign ad, wouldn\u2019t you say?\u00a0\u00a0We\u2019ve been drawn, but not shocked \u2013 which brings me to Lyndon B. Johnson\u2019s 1964 <em>Daisy <\/em>ad. It aired exactly once \u2013 September 7th \u2013 during NBC\u2019s <em>Monday Night at the Movies.<\/em> It was a shocker, all right.<em> <\/em>Take a look.<\/p>\n<p><object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"512\" height=\"288\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.hulu.com\/embed\/li9VJe4d3b3JVKsTRJcSaA\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><embed type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"512\" height=\"288\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hulu.com\/embed\/li9VJe4d3b3JVKsTRJcSaA\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p>Interesting political trivia, no?\u00a0I\u2019d be curious to know your thoughts on this ad. Yes, I know it\u2019s a different era and that the times have changed.\u00a0 That said, it\u2019s not completely irrelevant.\u00a0We all know that the nuclear threat exists, and now we have al-Qaeda to top things off.<\/p>\n<p>Back to the ad.\u00a0Too much? Just plain wrong? Effective? Interesting?
