{"id":20188,"date":"2010-08-03T11:36:37","date_gmt":"2010-08-03T17:36:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/?p=20188"},"modified":"2010-08-03T13:34:41","modified_gmt":"2010-08-03T19:34:41","slug":"martinez-to-get-more-help-from-pawlenty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2010\/08\/martinez-to-get-more-help-from-pawlenty\/","title":{"rendered":"Martinez to get more help from Pawlenty"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_18211\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignright\" style=\"max-width: 120px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18211\" title=\"Pawlenty, Tim\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Pawlenty-Tim.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tim Pawlenty<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Republican gubernatorial candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.susanamartinez2010.com\/\">Susana Martinez<\/a> has won a contest hosted by potential 2012 presidential hopeful and Minnesota Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tim_Pawlenty\">Tim Pawlenty<\/a> \u2013 meaning Pawlenty plans to provide additional help to Martinez beyond the $5,000 his political action committee has already donated to her campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Pawlenty\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timpawlenty.com\/\">Freedom First PAC<\/a> asked people to vote online for their favorite of 13 candidates for U.S. House, U.S. Senate and various governorships across the nation. The PAC confirmed today that Martinez won the contest.<\/p>\n<p>That means the GOP\u2019s Pawlenty plans to come to New Mexico to campaign for Martinez. According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timpawlenty.com\/2010-candidate-contest-2\">his Web site<\/a>, he will also co-host a Facebook town-hall meeting live from New Mexico along with Martinez. And his PAC will send a fundraising e-mail on behalf of Martinez to its distribution list and match every dollar that\u2019s raised up to $5,000.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSusana Martinez is a forward-thinking, commonsense conservative with a solid plan to grow New Mexico\u2019s economy and eliminate corruption in the state,\u201d Pawlenty said in a prepared statement. \u201cFreedom First supporters are excited about her candidacy and I share their enthusiasm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSusana is a great leader who will make a great governor,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m proud to be supporting her and look forward to campaigning with her and co-hosting a Facebook town hall with her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martinez is popular in national GOP circles. The day after she won the primary, Pawlenty announced that his PAC was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2010\/06\/gov-pawlenty-gives-5k-to-martinez\/\">giving $5,000<\/a> to Martinez. So did another potential 2012 GOP presidential candidate, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2010\/06\/romney-gives-to-new-mexico-gop-candidates\/\">Mitt Romney<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Palin, another possible 2012 presidential hopeful, came to New Mexico in May <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2010\/05\/palin-provides-energy-media-buzz-for-martinez%E2%80%99s-campaign\/\">to endorse Martinez<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update, 12:20 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From Martinez Campaign Manager Ryan Cangiolosi:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe enthusiasm Susana Martinez\u2019s campaign is generating across\u00a0New Mexico\u00a0is something we notice as she travels the state and speaks with voters about her plans to deliver bold change. We also feel very fortunate that Susana\u2019s commitment to bringing about the kinds of reforms that will improve the quality of life for all New Mexicans are being recognized and the energy behind her candidacy will be an important element in turning things around\u00a0this November.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Update, 1:35 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From state Democratic Party spokesman James Hallinan:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThis isn\u2019t surprising:\u00a0Sarah Palin, the Texas millionaires who paid for the Swiftboat ads,\u00a0Michael Steele\u00a0and now\u00a0Tim Pawlenty.
