Voters in this year’s election will have to contend with a higher-than-usual number of candidates — most Republicans — skipping some conventional means of reaching them through League of Women Voters guides, forums, and meetings with the daily newspaper.<\/p><\/div>\n

New Mexicans who are hoping the League of Women Voters guides will help them decide how to vote this year may be disappointed.<\/p>\n

Southern New Mexicans won’t\u00a0see any responses in that area’s guide from six Republican state legislative candidates in contested races — Joseph Bishop, Lee Cotter, Neal Hooks, Ceil Levatino, Andy Nu\u00f1ez, and John Zimmerman.<\/p>\n

Despite several attempts to contact them, those candidates\u00a0provided no responses to the League of Women Voters of Greater Las Cruces’ questionnaire for its voter guide<\/a>. The trend is statewide: Seven Republicans in contested races didn’t provide responses for the Albuquerque-area guide<\/a>. Three shunned\u00a0the Santa Fe-area guide<\/a>. One didn’t respond for the Los Alamos-area guide<\/a>.<\/p>\n
