When it became clear around 12:30 a.m.<\/span><\/span> on Oct. 5\u00a0that House Republicans were going to force a middle-of-the-night hearing on reinstating the death penalty with no public notice, I made coffee and prepared to go without sleep. I wanted a comprehensive story waiting for you\u00a0when you woke up.<\/p>\n

My article<\/a> was widely read. On Facebook it was\u00a0shared 78 times, liked by more than 1,100 people, and seen by 12,093. In addition to being published by NMPolitics.net, it also ran in the Las Cruces Sun-News<\/a>.<\/p>\n

House Republicans tried to close the door on all of us that night.\u00a0Good journalism doesn’t let that happen.<\/p>\n

Instead, Republicans got a widely read article<\/a> about the Democrats’ stand against, in the words of Democratic\u00a0Rep.\u00a0Patricia Roybal Caballero, “chicanery and shenanigans.”\u00a0If Democrats are successful in taking back the House next month, NMPolitics.net will be watching them too — as we’ve done time<\/a> and again<\/a> in the past.<\/p>\n
