{"id":19713,"date":"2010-07-20T10:34:10","date_gmt":"2010-07-20T16:34:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/?p=19713"},"modified":"2010-07-20T10:34:14","modified_gmt":"2010-07-20T16:34:14","slug":"sheriff-suspends-radio-ads-until-after-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2010\/07\/sheriff-suspends-radio-ads-until-after-election\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheriff suspends radio ads until after election"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_17770\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignright\" style=\"max-width: 120px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17770\" title=\"Garrison, Todd\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/Garrison-Todd.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Todd Garrison<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Even though he isn\u2019t mentioned or speaking in radio ads promoting the Do\u00f1a Ana County Sheriff\u2019s Department, Sheriff <a href=\"http:\/\/donaanacounty.org\/sheriff\/profile\/\">Todd Garrison<\/a> is suspending the ads until after the November election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough the advertising campaign is reflective of an ongoing and dynamic effort to rebrand the Do\u00f1a Ana County Sheriff\u2019s Department to the community, I am sensitive to the fact that we are in an election cycle,\u201d Garrison said in a news release. \u201cWith that in mind, I have informed the internal committee that commissioned the campaign of my decision to suspend it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The radio ads, which have been airing for weeks, are part of a $50,000 community outreach effort that began in 2007, according to the release. Using seized-assets funds \u2013 not taxpayer dollars \u2013 a committee chaired by Lt. Chris Smead issued a request for proposals in 2008 for services to raise awareness of the Do\u00f1a Ana County Sheriff\u2019s Department. A Las Cruces firm, Wilson-Binkley Advertising, was the winning bidder and has coordinated production and placement of radio ads promoting the department\u2019s mission statement and core beliefs.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In addition to the radio advertisements, the department\u2019s rebranding initiative includes redesigned patrol cars, new letterhead, posters and banners for recruiting and job fairs. Once the campaign resumes, the department also plans billboards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis entire initiative is reflective of the officers\u2019 desire to show their professionalism and pride to the communities we collectively serve,\u201d Smead said in the release. \u201cI respect Sheriff Garrison\u2019s decision to suspend the campaign, but the entire department looks forward to its resumption in November, regardless of the election results.
