{"id":1950,"date":"2007-07-09T14:57:00","date_gmt":"2007-07-09T20:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/07\/heinrich-raises-181000-for-congressional-run\/"},"modified":"2007-07-09T14:57:00","modified_gmt":"2007-07-09T20:57:00","slug":"heinrich-raises-181000-for-congressional-run","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/07\/heinrich-raises-181000-for-congressional-run\/","title":{"rendered":"Heinrich raises $181,000 for congressional run"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RpKhhiuSXZI\/AAAAAAAACyI\/JXCFKtqrBJ4\/s1600-h\/Heinrich,+Martin.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RpKhhiuSXZI\/AAAAAAAACyI\/JXCFKtqrBJ4\/s200\/Heinrich,+Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5085304526883413394\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Albuquerque City Councilor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.martinheinrich.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Martin Heinrich<\/a> raised more than $181,000 in the last three months for his bid to unseat U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/wilson.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heather Wilson<\/a>, R-N.M.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Heinrich, a Democrat, announced in a news release today that he raised more than $181,000 from nearly 700 donors for the reporting period that ended June 30 \u2013 his first in the race.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI am truly humbled by the strong support my candidacy has received,\u201d Heinrich said in the release. \u201cThe outpouring of grassroots energy I have witnessed since entering this race demonstrates to me that voters are ready for new leadership. As I have spoken with voters across this district, they have told me that they\u2019re sick and tired of the failed policies of George Bush and Heather Wilson, and they\u2019re ready to put our country back on the right track.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Heinrich\u2019s campaign manager, Philip Muller, said he didn\u2019t have exact numbers for Heinrich\u2019s expenses or how much cash he has on hand, but said the on-hand amount would be more than $150,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe\u2019ve been running a very lean, mean operation,\u201d he said. \u201cMartin\u2019s been very focused on what we\u2019ve been about what we need to do, and we\u2019ve really gotten a very good response. We\u2019re getting ready for a very long campaign, but we\u2019re feeling very good about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The news release stated that 71 percent of contributors live in the First Congressional District and 88 percent are from <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>. His is a race that is always contested, and involvement of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dccc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee<\/a>, the fundraising arm of House Democrats, is automatic, so getting some sizable contributions from outside <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> isn\u2019t a surprise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The announcement comes less than a day after Do\u00f1a Ana County Commissioner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billmccamley.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill McCamley<\/a>, who is attempting to unseat U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pearceforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Pearce<\/a>, R-N.M., next year, announced that he raised just under $140,000 during the reporting period. He spent $6,300 during the period and had $133,300 on hand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Heinrich has hired more staff than McCamley, so it\u2019s not a surprise that he has spent more money.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">McCamley\u2019s money came from 216 contributors, so his average contribution was about $650. Heinrich\u2019s average contribution was about $250.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Heinrich isn\u2019t the only Democrat in the race. Lawyer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqtrib.com\/news\/2007\/jul\/06\/local-lawyer-mulls-run-wilsons-house-seat\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jon Adams<\/a> just entered the race.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Update, 3:10 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Fernando Cuevas, spokesman for the DCCC, said Heinrich and McCamley both \u201chad a really strong showing\u201d in second-quarter fundraising.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cOverall, nationwide, they are above par,\u201d he said. \u201cThey did really well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-style: italic;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">A prior version of this posting incorrectly stated that Heinrich is the only Democrat in the race.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Albuquerque City Councilor Martin Heinrich raised more than $181,000 in the last three months for his bid to unseat U.S. Rep.
