Why would a man intentionally waste solar power he\u2019s producing by building a water heating and cooling system he doesn\u2019t need?<\/p>\n
Because, apparently, that\u2019s the only way Alamogordo resident John Kloepper gets paid for producing the energy.<\/p>\n
U.S. Rep. Harry Teague<\/a>, D-N.M., toured Kloepper\u2019s solar project on Monday and learned about the issue, the Alamogordo Daily News<\/a> is reporting. In the article, Kloepper also talked about his frustration at the situation, which incentivizes his wasting of the energy he\u2019s producing but not using.<\/p>\n \u201cThe thing that makes this really hard to stomach is because the power is being burned on site, and PNM<\/a> is basically just sending me a check for the REC (renewable energy credit<\/a>),\u201d Kloepper was quoted by the newspaper as saying. \u201cThat money is coming from somewhere, and it\u2019s coming from the rate payers in town.\u201d<\/p>\n
