\"\"<\/a>House Minority Whip Dan Foley<\/a>, R-Roswell, was arrested Sunday following a fight at his son\u2019s basketball game. <\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Foley was charged with disorderly conduct, interfering with a police officer and resisting arrest, all misdemeanors, and was booked into jail before being released on bond. He said he\u2019s planning to fight the charges and will be exonerated.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

During the Gus Macker<\/a> tournament game, Foley said, a fight broke out among the teens on the court. He said a man he believes was the coach of the other team \u201cslammed my kid to the ground, I mean, shoved him to the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cHe shoved him to the ground and squared up with him,\u201d Foley said. \u201cI didn\u2019t get three steps onto the court when three cops slammed me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Foley, who, according to the New Mexico Courts Web site<\/a>, has several speeding citations on record but no other criminal history, said he will \u201cget this cleared.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to court, and I have no doubt we\u2019ll be vindicated,\u201d he said. \u201cAny parent, if you saw an adult attack your 14-year-old son, you would step in too.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 37-year-old Foley\u2019s temper has erupted on the House floor in the past, but he is a skilled debater who was instrumental in organizing House Republicans to become effective players during the 2007 Legislature. He helped lead the group to have influence on several topics, including capital outlay distribution and reform of the state\u2019s housing authority system.<\/p>\n

He has been a representative since 1999.<\/p>\n

Democratic Party of New Mexico<\/a> Executive Director Matt Farrauto had this to say about Foley\u2019s arrest:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt appears the ex-Foley-ator strikes again,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s pathetic how Foley reinforces his reputation for erratic behavior that rubs people the wrong way. The people of southeastern New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> deserve better than a wingnut like Foley who can\u2019t even control himself at a high school basketball game.\u201d<\/p>\n
