{"id":1866,"date":"2007-06-20T12:26:00","date_gmt":"2007-06-20T18:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/06\/poll-shows-richardsons-support-dropping-in-iowa\/"},"modified":"2007-06-20T12:26:00","modified_gmt":"2007-06-20T18:26:00","slug":"poll-shows-richardsons-support-dropping-in-iowa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/06\/poll-shows-richardsons-support-dropping-in-iowa\/","title":{"rendered":"Poll shows Richardson&#8217;s support dropping in Iowa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RnlyKdANOQI\/AAAAAAAACoQ\/oF1BC_IQXTY\/s1600-h\/Richardsonforpresident.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RnlyKdANOQI\/AAAAAAAACoQ\/oF1BC_IQXTY\/s200\/Richardsonforpresident.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5078215578746697986\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>After several weeks of climbing in polls in <st1:state st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:state> and <st1:state st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:state>, a new survey of likely Democratic caucus goers in the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Hawkeye<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">State<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> has Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.richardsonforpresident.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Richardson\u2019s<\/a> support moving in the opposite direction.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/ap\/20070620\/ap_on_el_pr\/poll2008_iowa_1;_ylt=AqrGGeRHJL4RicWOPJz.s0Jpu6cv\" target=\"_blank\">Mason-Dixon Polling and Research survey<\/a>, conducted June 13-16, has <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> at 6 percent in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>. It surveyed 400 likely caucus goers and has a margin of error of 5 percent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The drop follows several weeks of gains in polls in the two important states to between 8 and 10 percent. This is the first poll conducted in <st1:state st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:state> since two recent, nationally televised appearances that earned <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> a lot of criticism.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The most recent poll in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>, conducted after those TV appearances, had him holding steady at 10 percent and only two points behind <a href=\"http:\/\/www.johnedwards.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">John Edwards<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The new poll in <st1:state st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:state> was also conducted days after <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> began airing his third <a href=\"http:\/\/action.richardsonforpresident.com\/page\/content\/askedyou\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cjob-interview\u201d ad<\/a> in that state. <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> experienced huge gains in <st1:state st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:state> and <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> following the release of the first two ads in that clever series.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hillaryclinton.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hillary Clinton<\/a> leads the pack in the new <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> poll with 22 percent. Edwards is second at 21 percent, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barackobama.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Barack Obama<\/a> is third at 18 percent. No other candidate was above the margin of error.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The most significant development in the new poll is <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s lead. Previous polls in <st1:state st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:state> had Edwards in first, which was significant because he trailed <st1:city st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:city> in most other states, but had a chance as long as he led in the earliest contest in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The new poll also follows some other bad news for <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city>\u2019s campaign in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>. His <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Des Moines<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> office was vandalized on Tuesday. Read about it by clicking <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kgan.com\/template\/inews_wire\/wires.regional.ia\/20636ada-www.kgan.com.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:130%;\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> focusing on <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Iraq<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> withdrawal<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Meanwhile, <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> is continuing his attempt to stand out among Democratic presidential contenders by calling for a full withdrawal of all American troops from <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Iraq<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>. His campaign has started a new Web site \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.notroopsleftbehind.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">notroopsleftbehind.com<\/a> \u2013 and, in a speech given Tuesday in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>, scolded his rivals who are current or former members of Congress for not doing enough to bring the troops home. And this is the same legislation that former Senator Edwards says we should send back and back to the president over and over again until he signs it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Yes, it was Richardson who, several months ago, gained national attention for calling for all Democratic candidates to agree to no negative attacks at a time when Clinton and Obama were fighting. <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said Tuesday\u2019s speech wasn\u2019t an attack, but was an attempt to highlight the differences between him and the other candidates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">There\u2019s a fine line between the two. <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> is always trying to walk such lines. You can watch portions of the speech at the end of this posting and decide for yourself whether he\u2019s a hypocrite or a tightrope walker.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:130%;\">Some good news for <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s speech was well received, and his simple, hard-line stance is gaining national attention. And there\u2019s more good news for <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.cleveland.com\/openers\/2007\/06\/fec_unveils_new_ohio_president.html\" target=\"_blank\">Cleveland Plain Dealer<\/a>, <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> raised more money in the <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Cleveland<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> area than any other presidential candidate during the first quarter of 2007.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> raised $63,500 from that area in the important presidential-election state. Edwards was next at $52,675. But <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> didn\u2019t lead in statewide fundraising. Obama did, with more than $1.5 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:130%;\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> on the campaign trail<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Following Tuesday\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.afscme.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">AFSCME<\/a> forum and the conference in <st1:city st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:city>, <st1:state st=\"on\">D.C.<\/st1:state>, <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> attended fundraisers in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New York City<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>. <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> is taking a break today, with no scheduled campaign events.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">On Thursday, he\u2019ll be in <st1:city st=\"on\">Phoenix<\/st1:city> for a union town-hall meeting in the morning and will attend a fundraiser in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> in the evening.
