{"id":18610,"date":"2010-06-18T20:03:22","date_gmt":"2010-06-19T02:03:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/?p=18610"},"modified":"2010-06-21T01:36:05","modified_gmt":"2010-06-21T07:36:05","slug":"cruces-city-manager-resigning-in-december","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2010\/06\/cruces-city-manager-resigning-in-december\/","title":{"rendered":"Cruces city manager resigning in December"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_11668\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignright\" style=\"max-width: 270px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11668 \" title=\"Moore, Terrence 2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Moore-Terrence-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"270\" height=\"236\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Las Cruces City Manager Terrence Moore (Photo by Heath Haussamen)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Las Cruces City Manager <a href=\"http:\/\/las-cruces.org\/manager\/\">Terrence Moore<\/a>, whose personal and professional actions have come under heavy scrutiny by the city council and others in recent months, announced today that he\u2019s resigning at the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Moore said in <a href=\"http:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/Documents\/MooreResignationLetter.pdf\">his resignation letter<\/a> that it is time to \u201cpursue other professional opportunities.\u201d His resignation followed a five-hour closed session at which the city council discussed his employment.<\/p>\n<p>Moore gave no further explanation in the letter except to say that two major construction projects \u2013 a convention center and an aquatic recreation center \u2013 will be complete by the end of the year. Reached by e-mail, he also declined to comment further.<\/p>\n<p>Moore\u2019s letter says his decision comes after \u201ca great deal of reflection.\u201d It states that he appreciates \u201cthe support and opportunity to grow both personally and professionally while serving this wonderful community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mayor <a href=\"http:\/\/las-cruces.org\/council\/mayor.shtm\">Ken Miyagishima<\/a>, who has defended Moore in recent months, said in a news release that it\u2019s a \u201cbittersweet\u201d day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn all my years of public service, Terrence Moore is the best manager I have had the pleasure of working with,\u201d he said. \u201cI remember when we first hired him, I only expected him to be with us for three to five years because someone with his caliber is highly sought after. I\u2019m glad he\u2019s staying on until December to see the completion of the aquatic center and the convention center. I wish him the best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The council met behind closed doors several times in recent months to discuss adding <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2010\/04\/city-council-to-meet-in-closed-session-about-moore%e2%80%99s-contract\/\">\u201cperformance objectives\u201d<\/a> to Moore\u2019s contract. That followed scrutiny by some councilors, NMPolitics.net and other media organizations of two work-related issues:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Earlier this year Moore reimbursed the city for some costs associated with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2010\/01\/cruces-manager-reimburses-city-for-travel-costs\/\">two business trips<\/a> he took last year \u2013 after a complaint was filed over one trip and an attorney requested documentation about the other.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Moore also had his administrative assistant\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2010\/01\/las-cruces-manager-had-city-staffer-babysit-kids\/\">babysit his children<\/a> on Dec. 21 \u2013 while she was on the clock and being paid with public money \u2013 so he could attend a city council meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Moore has also been under scrutiny because of an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2010\/03\/sheriff-takes-over-case-involving-las-cruces-city-manager\/\">ongoing law enforcement investigation<\/a> into two incidents involving him and his ex-wife \u2013 one surrounding injuries Moore\u2019s then-wife suffered in late 2008 and the other involving a police report the city manager filed over a prescription-drug incident in January 2009.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Las Cruces City Manager Terrence Moore, whose personal and professional actions have come under heavy scrutiny by the city council and others in recent months, announced today that he\u2019s resigning at the end of the year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[11,1],"tags":[145],"class_list":["post-18610","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news-and-analysis","category-uncategorized","tag-las-cruces"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/18610","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=18610"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/18610\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=18610"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=18610"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=18610"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
