His most visible client was the New Mexico Game Fowl Association, which successfully fought a proposal to ban cockfighting in the state until the Legislature approved the ban this year. It takes effect Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Jaramillo ran unsuccessfully as a Democrat against Do\u00f1a Ana County Commissioner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.donaanacounty.org\/commissioners\/district1\/\" target=\"_blank\">Oscar V\u00e1squez Butler<\/a> in the June 2006 primary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">He was a retired state police officer who recently began working as an investigator in the county sheriff\u2019s department.
