{"id":1858,"date":"2007-06-14T13:43:00","date_gmt":"2007-06-14T19:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/06\/richardson-secures-congressional-endorsements\/"},"modified":"2007-06-14T13:43:00","modified_gmt":"2007-06-14T19:43:00","slug":"richardson-secures-congressional-endorsements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/06\/richardson-secures-congressional-endorsements\/","title":{"rendered":"Richardson secures congressional endorsements"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RnGa09ANOJI\/AAAAAAAACnY\/k2mtefsMj2E\/s1600-h\/Richardsonforpresident.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RnGa09ANOJI\/AAAAAAAACnY\/k2mtefsMj2E\/s200\/Richardsonforpresident.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5076008489542563986\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.richardsonforpresident.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Richardson<\/a> announced today the endorsements of four members of the U.S. House of Representatives \u2013 two of them Hispanics.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">That\u2019s important because a number of visible Hispanics have endorsed other Democratic presidential candidates in recent weeks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city>\u2019s campaign announced the endorsements of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.house.gov\/doyle\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mike Doyle<\/a> of <st1:state st=\"on\">Pennsylvania<\/st1:state> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.house.gov\/ortiz\/\" target=\"_blank\">Solomon Ortiz<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.house.gov\/green\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gene Green<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/wwwc.house.gov\/reyes\/\" target=\"_blank\">Silvestre Reyes<\/a> of <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Texas<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>. The endorsements from three <st1:state st=\"on\">Texas<\/st1:state> representatives are sure to give a boost to <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city>\u2019s campaign in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>\u2019s neighbor to the east.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI am privileged to have the support of such honorable men,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said in a news release. \u201cThese are outstanding congressman who have provided leadership in Congress and dedicated their careers to serving their constituents and improving our country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rollcall.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Roll Call<\/a> reported in April that Richardson, who served in the House of Representatives for 14 years, was having a hard time securing endorsements from Hispanic members of Congress. At the time, the only Hispanic representative to endorse his candidacy was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.house.gov\/pastor\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ed Pastor<\/a> of <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Arizona<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>. Though Reyes had not yet endorsed his campaign, he had contributed $1,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span  lang=\"EN\" style=\"color:black;\">So the new endorsements are big news.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span  lang=\"EN\" style=\"color:black;\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cHaving known Gov. Richardson for many years, I have always been impressed by his experience, ability and sincere commitment to our country,\u201d Doyle said. \u201cOur next president has to be prepared to address difficult challenges here at home and re-establish our standing abroad. I\u2019m confident that Bill Richardson is the best choice to lead us back in the right direction, and I am proud to endorse his candidacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Ortiz said <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> \u201cis the best presidential candidate to work across party lines to solve the very real problems facing our country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI am proud to be supporting a westerner who understands and has experience with the issues of energy, water, transportation and land,\u201d he said. \u201cHe can reach many segments of our nation, and he understands our relationship with the rest of the world, a very rare talent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Over the years, Green said, he has worked with <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> and seen \u201cfirsthand how his leadership has helped not only <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>, but our country. <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> has the proven executive experience and record to be president on day one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Reyes said he\u2019s personally known <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> for 20 years, and he\u2019s the most qualified presidential candidate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThanks to the actions of the current administration, our nation\u2019s next president will face many challenges,\u201d Reyes said. \u201cThe American people need someone with Gov.
