It needed 60 to pass.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Citing Domenici\u2019s involvement in the ongoing <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">U.S.<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> attorney controversy, Democrats had called for him to recuse himself. After the vote, Domenici said he voted against the resolution because there was no precedent for a no-confidence vote and he \u201cis anxious to work on the pressing issues begging the Senate\u2019s time and consideration\u201d instead of \u201cmeaningless partisan political endeavors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Democratic Party fired back.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cToday, Pete Domenici showed that he has no remorse for pressuring David Iglesias to bring politically-sensitive indictments days before an election,\u201d the party stated in a news release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cPete Domenici clearly isn\u2019t sorry for his role in this scandal and he\u2019s deaf to our concerns about how the Department of Justice has handled it,\u201d said Party Chair Brian Col\u00f3n. \u201cIt\u2019s no surprise that Domenici has full confidence in Bush\u2019s Department of Justice \u2013 the Bush Administration has been as responsive to Domenici\u2019s political needs as he is to theirs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cHowever,\u201d Col\u00f3n said, \u201cDomenici had a clear conflict of interest and he never should have cast a vote today.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As expected, the Democratic Party of New Mexico slammed U.S. Sen.
