{"id":1826,"date":"2007-06-07T11:36:00","date_gmt":"2007-06-07T17:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/06\/state-democratic-party-may-get-new-director\/"},"modified":"2007-06-07T11:36:00","modified_gmt":"2007-06-07T17:36:00","slug":"state-democratic-party-may-get-new-director","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/06\/state-democratic-party-may-get-new-director\/","title":{"rendered":"State Democratic Party may get new director"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The new chair of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmdemocrats.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Democratic Party of New Mexico<\/a> has decided to seek applicants for the position of executive director.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The current director, Matt Farrauto, can reapply, but others can also seek the job.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Party Chair Brian Col\u00f3n announced the job posting in an e-mail Wednesday evening. The job description and more information can be found <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmdemocrats.org\/ht\/d\/sp\/i\/360044\/pid\/360044\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Farrauto has been executive director for 18 months and was communications director for 18 months before that, but it\u2019s not unusual for a new party chair to bring in a new director.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Farrauto said he is considering his options as the search process moves forward.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 14.4pt;\">\u201c<font color=\"black\">For me, even if this job ends today, I think that I (and all the people I\u2019ve worked with over the last three years) will have a lot to be proud of, both personally and professionally,\u201d he wrote in an e-mail. \u201cHowever, I\u2019m not privy to the chairman\u2019s thoughts on the position, nor do I know who he wants to serve in it.\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 14.4pt;\"><font color=\"black\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 14.4pt;\">Col\u00f3n couldn\u2019t immediately be reached for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 14.4pt;\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 14.4pt;\">One Democrat mentioned as a possible replacement is Art Terrazas of Anthony. He\u2019s the son of former <a href=\"http:\/\/www.donaanacounty.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Do\u00f1a Ana County<\/a> Commissioner Arturo Terrazas, who had a controversial tenure on the commission.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 14.4pt;\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 14.4pt;\">Art Terrazas has built a strong reputation in the party, however. He is currently vice chair of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zianet.com\/donaanadem\" target=\"_blank\">Do\u00f1a Ana County Democratic Party<\/a> and was a big supporter of Col\u00f3n\u2019s bid to become party chair. Terrazas worked on the 2004 Kerry\/Edwards campaign.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 14.4pt;\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 14.4pt;\">Terrazas could not immediately be reached for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 14.4pt;\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 14.4pt; font-style: italic;\">A prior version of this posting incorrectly stated that Farrauto is definitely going to apply to keep his job.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The new chair of the Democratic Party of New Mexico has decided to seek applicants for the position of executive director.
