Though the votes aren\u2019t all counted, she\u2019s currently ahead with 48 percent of the vote to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allenweh2010.com\/\">Allen Weh\u2019s<\/a> 31 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Weh conceded the race moments ago.<\/p>\n<p>There was no immediate comment from the Martinez campaign, and e-mails seeking comment from the other campaigns haven\u2019t yet been answered. But the Republican Governors Association, which had prepared for a Martinez win, was quick with a statement about how Martinez will match up against Democrat <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dianedenish.com\/home\">Diane Denish<\/a> in November.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSusana Martinez\u2019s historic nomination is great news for New Mexico,\u201d said Tim Murtaugh, spokesman for the\u00a0Republican Governors Association. \u201cShe brings a proven record of holding government accountable and enforcing the rule of law that contrasts sharply with Diane Denish\u2019s failed leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMartinez promises lower taxes, spending restraint and\u00a0careful attention\u00a0to border security,\u201d he said. \u201cDenish represents the putrid practices of the Richardson Administration \u2013 higher taxes and government run amok.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Denish\u2019s campaign said a statement was coming shortly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update, 9:25 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele released this statement:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cCongratulations to all the New Mexican Republican candidates who won\u00a0their primaries, and especially to\u00a0Susana Martinez, who today becomes the first Hispanic woman nominated for governor by either of the major parties in the United States.\u00a0Republicans everywhere can be\u00a0proud of Martinez\u2019s landmark achievement and the major national significance of her nomination by the\u00a0Republican Party\u00a0to be the next\u00a0governor of New Mexico.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Update, 9:30 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cJanice spoke with Susana and congratulated her on running a good race and has asked that her supporters support Susana because the two are truly friends,\u201d Arnold-Jones Campaign Manager Steve Kush said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UPDATED: Do\u00f1a Ana County District Attorney Susana Martinez has won the GOP nomination for governor.
