McClure, who is leaving to take the position of president and CEO of the <a href=\"http:\/\/aci-nm.org\/aci\/Content\/default.asp\" target=\"_blank\">Association of Commerce and Industry<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe\u2019ve made great progress on our higher education agenda over the last four years,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said in a news release. \u201cI\u2019m confident Dr. Dasenbrock will keep driving that agenda forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Dasenbrock, who is currently provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unm.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">University of New Mexico<\/a>, said he will work with presidents and boards of regents from all of <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>\u2019s universities and colleges to continue to implement a common agenda for higher education.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cFor New Mexico to have the vibrant, forward-looking economy that it needs to have in the 21st century, every aspect of the state educational institutions need to work together to promote student success, educational affordability and high-quality education and research programs,\u201d Dasenbrock said.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cOur institutions of higher education are a key partner for building a high-wage economy for <st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state>,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said.  \u201cDr. Dasenbrock has the strong academic credentials and key administrative skills needed to guide our Higher Education Department. He\u2019s worked in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> higher education for the last 26 years and has a deep commitment to the state and its diverse cultures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">At UNM, Dasenbrock helped boost undergraduate enrollment and retention and graduation rates, increased the number of Native American faculty and ensured that the majority of faculty hired were women or minorities, according to the news release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Before that, Dasenbrock spent 20 years at NMSU as a professor in the English Department, that department\u2019s chair, and director of the Arts and <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Sciences<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placename st=\"on\">Research<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">Center<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gov.
