Party accuses Weh of deceptively spinning endorsement"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_6952\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignright\" style=\"max-width: 285px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6952\" title=\"Weh\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/Weh.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"285\" height=\"222\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Allen Weh<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2010\/05\/gop-chairman-calls-out-weh-over-%e2%80%98misleading%e2%80%99-ads\/\">state GOP chairman<\/a> isn\u2019t the only one calling out Republican gubernatorial candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allenweh2010.com\/\">Allen Weh<\/a> for misleading campaigning. The <a href=\"http:\/\/santafeteaparty.blogspot.com\/\">Santa Fe T.E.A. Party<\/a> is accusing Weh of deceptively claiming he was endorsed by the head of the New Mexico tea party \u2013 when there is no statewide tea party organization to head.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Weh\u2019s campaign put out a news release stating that he was endorsed by the \u201chead of NM Tea Party.\u201d But that\u2019s not accurate, because there\u2019s no such thing. There are local tea party organizations throughout the state. Some are loosely affiliated. Others are not.<\/p>\n<p>The Weh news release stated that Jeanie Coates, \u201chead of New Mexico\u2019s Tea Party Patriots and co-founder of New Mexico Patriots, announced her personal endorsement\u201d of Weh. The body of the news release made clear that Coates wasn\u2019t speaking for the tea party.<\/p>\n<p>But the Santa Fe T.E.A. Party still took issue with the situation because of the headline. Last week, the group put out a news release stating that Weh was misrepresenting a personal endorsement from an individual as an endorsement from all state tea party groups.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cShame on him for using this headline in his press release \u2013 \u2018Head of N.M. Tea Party Endorses Weh,\u2019\u201d the release stated. \u201cIt is regrettable that candidates and their supporters will try to co-opt this locally-based, grass roots tea party movement to their advantage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The group added that it doesn\u2019t endorse candidates.<\/p>\n<p>The Weh campaign didn\u2019t respond to a request for comment on last week\u2019s release from the Santa Fe T.E.A. Party.<\/p>\n<p>The group sent out a second release on Sunday stating that \u201ccomplaints to the campaign were made and requests to correct the headline were ignored.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe expect and demand accuracy in any public statement made by currently elected officials and candidates,\u201d the news release states. \u201cThe Santa Fe T.E.A. party believes that political spin is not just deceptive, it is an attempt to sway voter opinion using wrong or misleading information and is an insult to the voters who take the time to research the facts.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The state GOP chairman isn\u2019t the only one calling out Republican gubernatorial candidate Allen Weh for misleading campaigning.
