{"id":1753,"date":"2007-05-21T19:10:00","date_gmt":"2007-05-22T01:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/05\/council-decision-wont-be-impacted-by-ag-probe\/"},"modified":"2007-05-21T19:10:00","modified_gmt":"2007-05-22T01:10:00","slug":"council-decision-wont-be-impacted-by-ag-probe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/05\/council-decision-wont-be-impacted-by-ag-probe\/","title":{"rendered":"Council decision won&#8217;t be impacted by AG probe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Officials from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">City of Las Cruces<\/a> said tonight that an ongoing probe by the attorney general\u2019s office of the relationship and agreement between Land Commissioner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmstatelands.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pat Lyons<\/a> and the developer of The Vistas at Presidio has no bearing on whether they approve the development plans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">At the request of state Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=323&#038;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Nate Cote<\/a> and Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=261&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Mary Jane Garcia<\/a>, the attorney general\u2019s office is looking into questions surrounding <st1:city st=\"on\">Lyons<\/st1:city>\u2019 agreement to lease the 6,000 acres on the <st1:place st=\"on\">East Mesa<\/st1:place> to Philip Philippou. Some questions surround the legality of the agreement; others are about the relationship between Lyons and Philippou, who has contributed a significant amount of money to <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Lyons<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Mayor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/council\/mayor.shtm\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Mattiace<\/a> said he spoke today with Attorney General <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ago.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gary King<\/a>, who said \u201che really believes (the investigation) is not germane to the issues at hand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">That\u2019s because, Assistant City Manager Robert Garza said, if the city annexes and master plans the land, those actions are in effect regardless of who owns the land.
