A spokeswoman for the Department of Health said Grisham \u201cis deciding that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cShe\u2019s got a lot of different options,\u201d said spokeswoman Deborah Busemeyer. \u201cI think she\u2019s leaving all of her options open.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Since there are no statewide offices open in 2008, it\u2019s hard to believe a cabinet secretary would be dropping such a prestigious job for a run at any office other than <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">U.S.<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> representative or senator. Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/domenici.senate.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pete Domenici<\/a>, R-N.M., is also up for re-election next year, and the Democratic Party has had a hard time finding any known candidate to challenge him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Replacing Grisham on June 11 will be Dr. Alfredo Vigil, CEO for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hcnnm.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">El Centro Family Health<\/a>, a non-profit primary care organization in <st1:place st=\"on\">Northern New Mexico<\/st1:place>, according to the news release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cSecretary Grisham has worked hard to guide strategic legislation and overseeing a vast array of health programs,\u201d Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/governor.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Richardson<\/a> said. \u201cI respect her many talents and tireless work ethic, and I am confident <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> will continue to benefit from her devotion to the citizens of this state.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said Vigil\u2019s experience will be a good fit for the job.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI am confident that, with Dr. Vigil\u2019s extensive clinical and leadership experience, coupled with his intimate knowledge of health care delivery in <st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state>, we will reinvigorate our public health policies and services and work on other key initiatives such as access to services, workforce development and improving <st1:state st=\"on\">New  Mexico<\/st1:state>\u2019s health rankings,\u201d <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In 1991, Grisham was appointed to direct the Aging and Long-term Services Department. <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> appointed her as health secretary in August 2004. The governor\u2019s release said she is \u201cnow looking into pursuing a political office that will enable her to continue her advocacy work for individual rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIn my 18 years in state government working for three governors, I have had the opportunity to lead agencies that improve access to health care and enhance the quality of life of New Mexicans,\u201d Grisham said in the release. \u201cI am proud to have worked with a dedicated team of professionals who devote their lives to serving and protecting New Mexicans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Albuquerque City Councilor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.martinheinrich.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Martin Heinrich<\/a>, the only Democrat who has officially filed the paperwork to run against <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> next year, hadn\u2019t heard about Grisham\u2019s departure, but said he ran into her recently and she mentioned nothing about a potential run.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Heinrich, who had previously set up an exploratory committee to consider a run, said he is definitely running and plans an official announcement in the summer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Since Grisham said nothing to Heinrich about challenging him in a primary, perhaps she\u2019s leaning toward a run against Domenici.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Busemeyer said she would try to get me an interview with Grisham later today.
