Gov. candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/joecampos.org\/\">Joe Campos<\/a> has picked up a noteworthy endorsement from former Albuquerque Mayor <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Martin_Chavez\">Martin Ch\u00e1vez<\/a>, while one of Campos\u2019 primary opponents, <a href=\"http:\/\/joecampos.org\/\">Brian Col\u00f3n<\/a>, is announcing the endorsement of a 9,000-member public education employees\u2019 union.<\/p>\n<p>Both endorsements were announced Thursday evening in news releases. Ch\u00e1vez said Campos \u201chas always impressed me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s smart, even-tempered and knowledgeable on the issues,\u201d Ch\u00e1vez said. \u201cJose Campos is clearly the best choice for lieutenant governor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Campos said he was proud to have Ch\u00e1vez\u2019s endorsement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have much in common, both serving as mayors, both dedicated to growing business and creating jobs, and both being responsible stewards of our environment,\u201d Campos said.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_16764\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignright\" style=\"max-width: 120px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-16764\" title=\"Colon, Brian\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/Colon-Brian.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Brian Col\u00f3n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/nm.aft.org\/\">American Federation of Teachers\u2019<\/a> president, Christine Trujillo, said in endorsing Col\u00f3n that he \u201cunderstands the importance of quality education for children and job training for recent\u00a0high school graduates and adults already in the workforce.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs chairman of the\u00a0Democratic Party, he was a tireless advocate for public schools and for teachers,\u201d Trujillo said. \u201cHis leadership and willingness to include stakeholders in the policy-setting process has earned our trust.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Col\u00f3n said he plans to make education his top priority, so he is \u201cespecially honored\u201d by the endorsement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStrong schools and training programs are the cornerstone of a strong economy, and I am committed to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to improve performance, decrease drop-out rates and prepare all New Mexicans for success,\u201d Col\u00f3n said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democratic Lt.
