Rod Montoya has resigned from his position as chairman of the San Juan County Republican Party<\/a> because he wants to advocate for candidates in some primary races in advance of the June 1 election.<\/p>\n

Montoya, who also resigned from his position as second vice chair of the state GOP, wrote in his resignation letter to the state party that he is \u201cunable to stand by any longer as Adam Kokesh<\/a>, candidate for Congress in the 3rd Congressional District, continues to mislead Republican voters,\u201d the Farmington Daily Times<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n

Montoya plans to support Kokesh\u2019s primary opponent, Tom Mullins<\/a>, in addition to gubernatorial candidate Susana Martinez<\/a>, the Daily Times reported. County party chairs aren\u2019t allowed to get involved in primary races.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to make it clear that I am not going to work for any one candidate, but I plan on informing the voters of specific candidate misrepresentations,\u201d Montoya\u2019s letter states. \u201cI am going to personally support several candidates that I believe in.\u201d<\/p>\n

Montoya took issue with Kokesh\u2019s opposition to the Iraq war and said he\u2019s also concerned about Kokesh supporting abortion, gay marriage and legal prostitution \u2013 the last being an issue Kokesh said should be left up to states.<\/p>\n

Kokesh was quoted by the Daily-Times as saying Montoya\u2019s comments prove that the GOP \u201cestablishment\u201d doesn\u2019t support him,\u00a0 but those who think the nation is \u201con the wrong track\u201d and realize that the GOP leaders are \u201cout of touch\u201d are supporting him.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
