Susana Martinez<\/p><\/div>\n

Hispanic candidates came out on top in three contested primary races in a straw poll taken at a forum in Elephant Butte earlier this week.<\/p>\n

At the Tuesday forum, Susana Martinez<\/a> narrowly won a straw poll asking which gubernatorial candidate those in attendance favored. John Sanchez<\/a> came out on top in the lieutenant governor\u2019s race in the poll. And Jamie Estrada<\/a> won big in the District 5 Public Regulation Commission race in the poll.<\/p>\n

Here are the full results:<\/p>\n

Governor<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Susana Martinez<\/a>: 32 percent
\n\u2022 Doug Turner<\/a>: 30 percent
\n\u2022 Janice Arnold-Jones<\/a>: 17 percent
\n\u2022 Pete Domenici Jr.<\/a>: 16 percent
\n\u2022 Allen Weh<\/a>: 5 percent<\/p>\n

Jamie Estrada<\/p><\/div>\n

Lieutenant governor<\/strong>
\n\u2022 John Sanchez<\/a>: 49 percent
\n\u2022 Brian Moore<\/a>: 39 percent
\n\u2022 Kent Cravens<\/a>: 12 percent<\/p>\n

Land commissioner<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Matt Rush<\/a>: 92 percent
\n\u2022 Bob Cornelius<\/a>: 8 percent<\/p>\n

PRC District 5<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Jamie Estrada<\/a>: 65 percent
\n\u2022 Ben Hall: 18 percent
\n\u2022 Kent Evans<\/a>: 14 percent
\n\u2022 Robert Maez: 3 percent<\/p>\n

It\u2019s worth noting that Martinez won even though she wasn\u2019t at the forum. Martinez, Weh and Maez missed the event. Straw polls aren\u2019t scientific and are most useful when viewed as a test of organization in the area in which they are conducted.<\/p>\n

Coleen Greer, one of the event\u2019s organizers, said 68 people voted in the straw poll, out of about 130 who attended the forum.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
