{"id":1645,"date":"2007-04-27T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2007-04-27T15:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/04\/richardsons-performance-didnt-impress-pundits\/"},"modified":"2007-04-27T09:00:00","modified_gmt":"2007-04-27T15:00:00","slug":"richardsons-performance-didnt-impress-pundits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/04\/richardsons-performance-didnt-impress-pundits\/","title":{"rendered":"Richardson&#8217;s performance didn&#8217;t impress pundits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RjIQq8C6ycI\/AAAAAAAACJg\/Z-7cbbw_f_s\/s1600-h\/Richardsonforpresident.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RjIQq8C6ycI\/AAAAAAAACJg\/Z-7cbbw_f_s\/s200\/Richardsonforpresident.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5058123661349407170\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>The consensus today generally seems to be that Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.richardsonforpresident.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Richardson\u2019s<\/a> performance at Thursday\u2019s Democratic presidential debate was mediocre.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">MSNBC\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/hardblogger.msnbc.msn.com\/archive\/2007\/04\/26\/170331.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Joe Scarborough<\/a> wrote after the debate that <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> is \u201cunderperforming\u201d and also \u201cfighting his tongue as well as his Nixonian flop sweat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Blogger <a href=\"http:\/\/www.joemonahan.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Joe Monahan<\/a> called <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s \u201ca pedestrian, but not a damaging performance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Santa Fe New Mexican\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/freenewmexican.com\/news\/60846.html\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Terrell<\/a> wrote that <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> \u201clooked uncomfortable, both when he was answering questions and when the camera caught him in random moments. He was sweating. He never smiled.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Even a <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> supporter, on the site <a href=\"http:\/\/www.americaforrichardson.org\/blog\/246\" target=\"_blank\">America for Richardson<\/a>, wrote that the governor \u201cshowed his substance on the issues, but we didn\u2019t see as much of his energetic and confident persona as one might have wished.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThe good news is that none of the other candidates really dazzled either,\u201d the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> supporter wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThe most important thing, in my view, is that many more people got exposed to Bill Richardson, and heard his views,\u201d the supporter concluded. \u201cHe didn\u2019t make any major mistakes and, while he was not his usual charming and likeable self, he showed that he has the experience and knowledge to be a serious candidate. While we may not have gained any significant ground last night, we didn\u2019t lose any either. As BR gains more comfort and confidence in debate settings, I have no doubt that he will begin to shine, as we know he can.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> campaign, on his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.richardsonforpresident.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Web site<\/a>, claimed that the governor\u2019s foreign policy experience \u201cdominated the first Democratic presidential debate. He went further than every other candidate by calling for the removal of all troops this calendar year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/news\/state\/558274nm04-27-07.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Albuquerque Journal<\/a> did a nice article on <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s performance.
