{"id":16224,"date":"2010-04-19T16:26:20","date_gmt":"2010-04-19T22:26:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/?p=16224"},"modified":"2010-04-20T15:43:55","modified_gmt":"2010-04-20T21:43:55","slug":"afscme-wants-gop-voters-to-pick-arnold-jones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2010\/04\/afscme-wants-gop-voters-to-pick-arnold-jones\/","title":{"rendered":"AFSCME wants GOP voters to pick Arnold-Jones"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_10261\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignright\" style=\"max-width: 120px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10261\" title=\"Arnold-Jones, Janice\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/Arnold-Jones-Janice.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Janice Arnold-Jones<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Even though it\u2019s already endorsed Democrat <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dianedenish.com\/\">Diane Denish<\/a> in this year\u2019s gubernatorial race, the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/afscme.org\/\">American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees<\/a> announced today that it wants Republican primary voters to pick <a href=\"http:\/\/janiceforgovernor.com\/\">Janice Arnold-Jones<\/a> to take on Denish in November.<\/p>\n<p>The members of AFSCME\u2019s political action committee voted unanimously this week to recommend that AFSCME\u2019s Republican members pick Arnold-Jones in the primary, according to an AFSCME news release.<\/p>\n<p>The release states that the recommendation is based on \u201ca number of good-government issues where AFSCME and Representative Arnold-Jones are on the same page &#8211; and where workers have relied on her to help solidify Republican support in the House.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Examples include that Arnold-Jones \u201csupports transparency in our tax code, in our contracting out, in\u00a0government spending, and in our legislative process,\u201d and that Arnold-Jones and AFSCME \u201calso fought together at the Roundhouse for whistleblower protections, against double-dipping, and against wasteful taxpayer handouts to out-of-state mega-developers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToo often people in both parties are caught up in pointing out differences, making straw men of the other side\u2019s positions,\u201d Patty French, chairwoman of AFSCME\u2019s political committee, said in the release.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat AFSCME members care about are electing folks who are ethical, who are willing to let the public see how government operates, who support whistleblowers, and who want to end abuses like double-dipping,\u201d French said. \u201cWe\u2019re lucky that, regardless of party and whatever their other differences may be, both Diane Denish and Rep. Arnold-Jones favor a practical, ethical, transparent approach to meeting the critical needs of New Mexicans.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Another legislative endorsement<\/h3>\n<p>Arnold-Jones picked up another endorsement today, from Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=HANDE\">Thomas Anderson<\/a>, R-Albuquerque.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Janice is the only one of the candidates running for governor that can actually control the state from the executive chair,\u201d Anderson said in a release from the Arnold-Jones campaign. \u201cI have served concurrently with Janice for nearly eight years and I believe she is obviously the sharpest legislator in the House.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGovernors cannot bully their way into the governor\u2019s office, and governors do not prosecute crimes,\u201d he said. \u201cJanice has the right experience. She knows how government works, and how it should work. She will be able to begin governing on day one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anderson is the fourth legislator to endorse Arnold-Jones in the primary race.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update, April 20, 3:45 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Arnold-Jones sent me the questionnaire she filed out that earned her AFSCME\u2019s endorsement.
