{"id":1621,"date":"2007-04-23T09:04:00","date_gmt":"2007-04-23T15:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/04\/heinrich-forms-congressional-exploratory-committee\/"},"modified":"2007-04-23T09:04:00","modified_gmt":"2007-04-23T15:04:00","slug":"heinrich-forms-congressional-exploratory-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/04\/heinrich-forms-congressional-exploratory-committee\/","title":{"rendered":"Heinrich forms congressional exploratory committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RizLPj3FS5I\/AAAAAAAACGA\/uqrm3jimchY\/s1600-h\/Heinrich,+Martin.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RizLPj3FS5I\/AAAAAAAACGA\/uqrm3jimchY\/s200\/Heinrich,+Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5056639949814975378\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Albuquerque City Councilor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.martinheinrich.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Martin Heinrich<\/a> has set up a formal exploratory committee as he prepares to run for Congress.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">And though he says he\u2019s not yet an official candidate, Heinrich has taken an immediate, unpaid leave of absence from his job as the state\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.onrt.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">natural resources trustee<\/a> as is required of candidates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">He\u2019s preparing to take on U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/wilson.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heather Wilson<\/a>, R-N.M., in the November 2008 general election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe\u2019re not ready to make an announcement, but you can see which direction we\u2019re headed,\u201d Heinrich said this morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Heinrich, reached on his cell phone, was on his way to his new campaign headquarters, and said he expects to make \u201can official announcement\u2026 in a matter of weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/governor.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Richardson<\/a> announced the leave of absence today in a news release. Heinrich will be replaced on an interim basis in his state job by <a href=\"http:\/\/onlyinnewmexico.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jim Baca<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI appreciate Martin\u2019s dedicated service and his commitment to protecting the environment,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said. \u201cI wish him well as he explores new opportunities to serve the people of <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Heinrich said he has met with the governor about his candidacy but did not want to comment on published reports that he had the governor\u2019s backing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI reached out to the governor right away. He\u2019s been very encouraging and supporting,\u201d Heinrich said. \u201cObviously, I\u2019ve got to do this for myself.
