{"id":1602,"date":"2007-04-18T13:19:00","date_gmt":"2007-04-18T19:19:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/04\/ag-looks-into-timeframe-for-annexation-vote\/"},"modified":"2007-04-18T13:19:00","modified_gmt":"2007-04-18T19:19:00","slug":"ag-looks-into-timeframe-for-annexation-vote","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/04\/ag-looks-into-timeframe-for-annexation-vote\/","title":{"rendered":"AG looks into timeframe for annexation vote"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RiZvd1y3EnI\/AAAAAAAACBA\/3aWElb6F4Os\/s1600-h\/King,+Gary.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RiZvd1y3EnI\/AAAAAAAACBA\/3aWElb6F4Os\/s200\/King,+Gary.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5054850190217253490\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Attorney General <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ago.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gary King\u2019s<\/a> office is looking into the issue of how long the Las Cruces City Council has to act on a proposal to annex 4,200 acres on the <st1:place st=\"on\">East  Mesa<\/st1:place> into the city.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">AG spokesman Phil Sisneros said his office received a written request from Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=281&#038;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Leonard Lee Rawson<\/a> and an oral request from Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=323&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Nate Cote<\/a> today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cOur office is working diligently and expeditiously on the request,\u201d Sisneros said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">At issue is whether a state statute would prevent councilors from delaying a vote on the annexation to allow more time for public scrutiny. Some interpret the statute to mean that the council must act by early May, making the postponing of Monday\u2019s vote impractical.
