That was apparently done because of Salazar\u2019s friendship with former state Attorney General <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Patricia_Madrid\" target=\"_blank\">Patricia Madrid<\/a>, who narrowly lost in her attempt to unseat U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/wilson.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heather Wilson<\/a>, R-N.M., last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The friendship could be a conflict because Iglesias alleges that Wilson and Domenici tried to pressure him to speed indictments in a public corruption probe in time to sway voters and help <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> in her re-election bid. Senators are investigating whether Domenici\u2019s October 2006 phone call to Iglesias violated Senate ethics. The investigation has the potential to end with a censure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Salazar was replaced on the investigating panel by Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/brown.senate.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sherrod Brown<\/a>, D-Ohio.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Approval of the resolution allowing the switch was the first on-the-record confirmation that Domenici is the topic of a preliminary inquiry by the Ethics Committee.
