{"id":1561,"date":"2007-04-06T11:00:00","date_gmt":"2007-04-06T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/04\/final-tally-has-tax-approved-by-270-votes\/"},"modified":"2007-04-06T11:00:00","modified_gmt":"2007-04-06T17:00:00","slug":"final-tally-has-tax-approved-by-270-votes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/04\/final-tally-has-tax-approved-by-270-votes\/","title":{"rendered":"Final tally has tax approved by 270 votes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RhZ_q3bEspI\/AAAAAAAAB6w\/7OQKyvY_jvY\/s1600-h\/Final+results.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RhZ_q3bEspI\/AAAAAAAAB6w\/7OQKyvY_jvY\/s1600\/Final+results.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5050364406551327378\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Do\u00f1a<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placename st=\"on\">Ana<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place> voters ended up approving a 1\/4 percent increase in the gross receipts tax to help fund <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceportamerica.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Spaceport America<\/a> by 270 votes.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">After completing the canvass this morning, which included considering all provisional ballots, the county released final results: 9,020 people, or 50.8 percent, voted for the tax; 8,750 people, or 49.2 percent, voted against it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">That means 17,770 people voted \u2013 18.4 percent of the 96,435 who were registered to vote in the election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The results remain unofficial until commissioners certify them at a meeting on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The tax taxes effect on Jan. 1, 2008. None of the money that\u2019s collected can be spent until the state signs a lease with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.virgingalactic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Virgin Galactic<\/a> and obtains a commercial spaceport license from the Federal Aviation Administration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">If those conditions aren\u2019t met by the end of 2008, commissioners have already stated, in a resolution, their intent to rescind the tax and seek approval to spend the money already collected \u2013 which at that point would be about $6.7 million \u2013 on other needs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The tax is set to sunset in 20 years or as soon as the bonds it funds are paid off.
