No money,\u201d said Do\u00f1a Ana County Commissioner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.donaanacounty.org\/commissioners\/district1\" target=\"_blank\">Oscar Vasquez Butler<\/a>. \u201cThis is rich against the poor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The most updated count as of 5 p.m. Thursday gives supporters of the tax 8,947 votes, or 50.8 percent, and opponents 8,682 votes, or 49.2 percent. The difference is 265 votes, or 1.6 percent, and there are 108 provisional ballots left to consider.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Elections workers should finish counting today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Meanwhile, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.virgingalactic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Virgin Galactic<\/a> released a statement late Thursday thanking voters for approving the tax.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThis positive vote is tremendous for the personal spaceflight industry, and the vision and spirit of adventure shown by the people in <st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state> and particularly in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Do\u00f1a<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">Ana<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placename st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place> is remarkable,\u201d said Jonathan Firth, Virgin\u2019s project director. \u201cI said in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> last week that we had no Plan B, and I\u2019m delighted that we don\u2019t need one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">He said Virgin looked forward to establishing its worldwide headquarters and operating base in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New   Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIt\u2019s going to be so exciting to have our customers come to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceportamerica.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Spaceport America<\/a>, fly them into space and bring them back as astronauts,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s exciting, too, to get to know the people of Do\u00f1a Ana, Sierra and Otero counties as we get established in the area and start thinking about the many other opportunities that the spaceport will stimulate.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the most vocal opponents of the spaceport tax says the loosely knit group can\u2019t afford and won\u2019t seek a recount. \u201cNo recount.
