A year ago today, NMPolitics.net relaunched<\/a> with an article exploring\u00a0how political labels don’t tell the whole story<\/a>.\u00a0That set a tone for a news organization that aims to dig deeper than superficial narratives and\u00a0do journalism that fosters conversation<\/a>\u00a0and builds community<\/a>.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve had an amazing first year back! We\u2019ve won<\/a> awards<\/a> for reporting, commentary writing, and the strength of our website. Our articles have been featured<\/a> repeatedly<\/a> on the<\/a> Google News<\/a> homepage.<\/a>\u00a0Traffic to our website has been at its highest levels ever. We\u2019ve engaged people from across New Mexico in thoughtful, bridge-building and informative conversations about political and government issues.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve been working to watchdog government agencies and officials including the governor<\/a>, the state auditor<\/a>, and the U.S. Border Patrol<\/a>. We\u2019ve tried to bring you thoughtful<\/a> coverage<\/a> of the presidential race<\/a> while also devoting resources to exploring issues in local and state races that are getting little attention elsewhere \u2013 like digging through the mud<\/a> in the Democratic primary race for Do\u00f1a Ana County district attorney and asking legislative candidates to answer questions about structural reform<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Our Q&A series<\/a> with people involved in New Mexico politics and government \u2013 which pushes politicos to answer deep questions in meaningful ways \u2013 has also been popular.<\/p>\n

And on Tuesday we brought a lawsuit against the City of Las Cruces<\/a> to enforce the state’s Inspection of Public Records Act. We believe transparency is critical to making government more accessible and increasing civic engagement.<\/p>\n
