{"id":15453,"date":"2010-04-08T10:34:50","date_gmt":"2010-04-08T16:34:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/?p=15453"},"modified":"2010-04-08T11:46:53","modified_gmt":"2010-04-08T17:46:53","slug":"weh-isn%e2%80%99t-participating-in-las-cruces-debate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2010\/04\/weh-isn%e2%80%99t-participating-in-las-cruces-debate\/","title":{"rendered":"Weh isn\u2019t participating in Las Cruces debate"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_7926\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignleft\" style=\"max-width: 120px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7926\" title=\"Weh, Allen\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Weh-Allen.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Allen Weh<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Republican gubernatorial candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allenweh2010.com\/\">Allen Weh<\/a> is the only of the five GOP hopefuls who won\u2019t be participating in Saturday\u2019s debate in Las Cruces.<\/p>\n<p>Weh notified the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gopdac.org\/\">Republican Party of Do\u00f1a Ana County<\/a> on Wednesday that he won\u2019t be attending, according to Mark Van Dyke, the county party chairman.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey cited scheduling conflicts that they were unable to overcome,\u201d Van Dyke said, adding that Weh \u201chad given us a tentative assurance that he would be here\u201d in March.<\/p>\n<p>Van Dyke said the other four gubernatorial candidates have confirmed their participation in the debate.<\/p>\n<p>Weh campaign spokesman Christopher Sanchez, however, said in a statement that the Weh campaign \u201cnever confirmed for this event and wish that it had not been erroneously advertised in that manner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCampaign supporters are hosting an event for Allen in Albuquerque at that time,\u201d Sanchez said. \u201cWe are looking forward to discussing the issues with Do\u00f1a Ana County voters when we take part in the upcoming forum with the Las Cruces TEA Party on April 22.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The TEA Party has not announced that it is hosting a candidate forum on April 22, but its next meeting is scheduled for that day, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/lcteaparty.org\/\">its Web site<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The county GOP <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2010\/03\/gop-gubernatorial-candidates-to-debate-in-las-cruces\/\">announced in March<\/a> that all five gubernatorial candidates had agreed to participate in Saturday\u2019s debate. The debate is part of the\u00a0county party\u2019s annual Lincoln-Reagan Dinner, and the cost is $100 per person.<\/p>\n<p>Though the night\u2019s program begins at 5 p.m., the debate is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. The deadline to RSVP has already passed.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Weh and <a href=\"http:\/\/domeniciforgovernor.com\/\">Pete Domenici Jr.<\/a> missed a GOP gubernatorial candidate debate in Alamogordo that was attended by the other three \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/janiceforgovernor.com\/\">Janice Arnold-Jones<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/susanamartinez2010.com\/\">Susana Martinez<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/turnerforgovernor.com\/\">Doug Turner<\/a>. You can read about it from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alamogordonews.com\/alamogordo-news\/ci_14812377\">Alamogordo Daily News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update, 11:40 a.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The county GOP provided a March 1 e-mail exchange with Weh Campaign Manager Whitney Cheshire (a former columnist for this site) to back up the party\u2019s claim that the Weh campaign had tentatively confirmed the candidate\u2019s attendance at the debate.
