{"id":1518,"date":"2007-04-03T15:46:00","date_gmt":"2007-04-03T21:46:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/04\/voter-turnout-also-strong-on-las-cruces-east-mesa\/"},"modified":"2007-04-03T15:46:00","modified_gmt":"2007-04-03T21:46:00","slug":"voter-turnout-also-strong-on-las-cruces-east-mesa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/04\/voter-turnout-also-strong-on-las-cruces-east-mesa\/","title":{"rendered":"Voter turnout also strong on Las Cruces&#8217; East Mesa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RhLLvwDZmaI\/AAAAAAAAB4Q\/h_Krtd3z1NE\/s1600-h\/Basic+logo+2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RhLLvwDZmaI\/AAAAAAAAB4Q\/h_Krtd3z1NE\/s200\/Basic+logo+2.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5049322153449200034\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>It isn\u2019t just the west side of <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> that has strong voter turnout in today\u2019s spaceport tax election.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">By 3:15 p.m., 304 people had voted at one precinct at <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Camino<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">Real<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placetype st=\"on\">Middle School<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> off <st1:street st=\"on\"><st1:address st=\"on\">Roadrunner Parkway<\/st1:address><\/st1:street>, and 129 had cast ballots at the other precinct there.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">And by 3 p.m., 149 had voted at one precinct at <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placetype st=\"on\">Highland<\/st1:placetype> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">Elementary School<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> off U.S. Highway 70. Two other precincts there had 84 and 68 voters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Though the numbers aren\u2019t fabulous, in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>, at least, they appear to be better than expected for a special election. Since all polling places that were used in November\u2019s general election are open, that isn\u2019t necessarily surprising. Smaller elections usually have about 30 polling places, but today there are about 75.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Turnout continues to be low in the north and south counties. Whether they\u2019ve voting for or against the tax \u2013 and most likely, it\u2019s a very close race \u2013 people in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> appear to be interested in this election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Comments I\u2019ve heard include, \u201cI want to see more jobs and a better future,\u201d and, \u201cI don\u2019t want to pay to send rich people into space.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It isn\u2019t just the west side of Las Cruces that has strong voter turnout in today\u2019s spaceport tax election.
