He knows the land, he knows New Mexicans, and he knows the job. I trust him and believe he\u2019s is the best choice for land commissioner,\u201d Anaya said in a news release from the Powell campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Powell, a former land commissioner who\u2019s trying to win the seat once again, said he is \u201chonored\u201d to have Anaya\u2019s support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs I\u2019ve come to better know Mike, it\u2019s clear he\u2019s passionate about his support for rural communities,\u201d Powell said in the release. \u201cIt\u2019s clear he got into the race for all the right reasons: He\u2019s dedicated to bettering the lives of New Mexican families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The move comes after Powell was the only Democratic candidate for land commissioner to secure a spot on the primary ballot by winning the votes of more than 20 percent of delegates at the party\u2019s preprimary nominating convention.<\/p>\n<p>Powell had the support of 44.43 percent of delegates. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montoya2010.com\/index.html\">Harry Montoya<\/a> had the support of 19.32 percent, while\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jonesforlandcommissioner.com\/\">Sandy Jones<\/a> finished third at 18.64 percent and\u00a0Anaya came in fourth at 17.61 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Montoya and Jones say they\u2019re staying in the race by collecting the additional signatures required by law.
