But after the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/story\/news\/local\/2016\/05\/04\/city-manager-search-continue\/83932344\/\" target=\"_blank\">Las Cruces Sun-News<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2016\/05\/las-cruces-doesnt-want-to-release-names-of-city-manager-applicants\/\" target=\"_blank\">NMPolitics.net<\/a> called into question the legality of secrecy, Miyagishima directed\u00a0the city&#8217;s private search firm to notify the three candidates he was releasing their names.<\/p>\n<p>The candidates interviewed a week ago are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mike Gallagher, the manager for Lea County, N.M.<\/li>\n<li>Ruth Osuna, assistant city manager for\u00a0Brownsville, Texas<\/li>\n<li>Dave Strahl, former assistant village manager for\u00a0Mount Prospect, Illinois<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Before releasing the names, Miyagishima said the three interviews didn&#8217;t lead to the city naming finalists for its city manager job and the search would continue. After releasing the names Miyagishima said none of the three have been eliminated\u00a0from consideration. But Gallagher\u00a0has decided to withdraw his name, the Sun-News <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/story\/news\/2016\/05\/05\/three-interview-city-manager-position\/83992236\/\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Las Cruces\u00a0is seeking someone to replace outgoing City Manager Robert Garza, who is retiring <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/story\/news\/local\/2016\/02\/16\/city-manager-retire-late-may\/80470990\/\" target=\"_blank\">later this month<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The city has received about 50 applications for the job. NMPolitics.net has filed a formal request under the state&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/manual.nmsu.edu\/files\/2013\/10\/2015-Edition-of-AG-NMIPRA-Compliance-Guide.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Inspection of Public Records Act<\/a>\u00a0asking for access to all applications. The city is legally required to respond early next week.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Miyagishima said the decision on whether to release applications submitted by\u00a0the three candidates he named and all other applicants would be up to the city&#8217;s attorneys.<\/p>\n<p>The city&#8217;s search firm initially told applicants their names would be confidential unless they were picked as finalists\u00a0&#8212; which the city has yet to name. And\u00a0City Councilor Jack Eakman <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/story\/news\/local\/2016\/05\/04\/city-manager-search-continue\/83932344\/\" target=\"_blank\">has said<\/a> releasing names might discourage some qualified people from applying.<\/p>\n<p>But, as NMPolitics.net\u00a0reported <a href=\"http:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2016\/05\/las-cruces-doesnt-want-to-release-names-of-city-manager-applicants\/\" target=\"_blank\">on Wednesday<\/a>, the N.M.
