Harry Teague (Photo by Heath Haussamen)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>U.S. Rep.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/teague.house.gov\/\">Harry Teague<\/a> sided with Republicans today in a failed bid to force a direct vote on the pending <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rules.house.gov\/bills_details.aspx?NewsID=4606\">health-care reform bill<\/a> the House is expected to consider Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s been a lot of talk about House Democrats possibly using the so-called <a href=\"http:\/\/firstread.msnbc.msn.com\/archive\/2010\/03\/16\/2229330.aspx\">\u201cdeem-and-pass\u201d<\/a> parliamentary procedure to OK the Senate\u2019s reform bill by voting to approve the rules for the vote on the legislation and deeming the bill approved at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>Many view that as quite different than a direct vote on the bill itself.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/abqnews\/inside-the-beltway-mainmenu-40\/19855-teague-votes-to-force-.html\">Albuquerque Journal<\/a>, Teague, D-N.M., and 27 other Democrats joined Republicans in voting today for a GOP resolution that would have required a direct vote on the bill. The resolution failed 222-203.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic leaders haven\u2019t said they\u2019ll use the \u201cdeem-and-pass\u201d method to move the bill to the president\u2019s desk. But they\u2019re also not taking it off the table.<\/p>\n<p>Teague hasn\u2019t announced whether he will support the reform bill. His spokeswoman, Sara Schreiber, said <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2010\/03\/teague-hasn%E2%80%99t-made-decision-on-health-care-bill-spokeswoman-says\/\">Wednesday<\/a> that Teague \u201cwill make a decision on health care when there is a final proposal on the table. Since there is no final language and no CBO score yet, his position hasn\u2019t changed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The final bill and analysis from the Congressional Budget Office were <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2010\/POLITICS\/03\/18\/health.care.main\/index.html?section=cnn_latest\">released today<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Teague, who voted\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/11\/teague%E2%80%99s-vote-against-health-bill-wasn%E2%80%99t-a-surprise\/\">against the House health-care bill<\/a> last year, still has \u201cserious concerns\u201d about the legislation, Schreiber has said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongressman Teague voted no on the House health-care bill and has expressed serious concerns about both the Senate bill and about using reconciliation instead of regular order to move this bill through the Congress,\u201d she has said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>U.S. Rep.
