Here\u2019s a roundup of some interesting developments:<\/h4>\n<p>House Speaker <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=HLUJA\">Ben Luj\u00e1n\u2019s<\/a> primary challenger is a nephew of state Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=HTRUJ\">Jim Trujillo<\/a>. And Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=HNUNE\">Andy Nu\u00f1ez<\/a> faces two primary challengers, including former Do\u00f1a Ana County Commissioner Gilbert Apodaca (yes, <a href=\"http:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/haussamen\/?p=14\">that Gilbert Apodaca<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Those are among the more interesting situations that developed on Tuesday when candidates for legislative and other state, county and judicial races filed to run.<\/p>\n<p>Luj\u00e1n, D-Namb\u00e9, is facing Carl Trujillo of Santa Fe, who was quoted by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.santafenewmexican.com\/Local%20News\/Filing-day-Primary-intentions\">The Santa Fe New Mexican<\/a> as saying he\u2019s \u201ctired of the same old politics\u201d and \u201cready for change.\u201d His uncle, an ally of the speaker, was quoted as saying he will work to re-elect Luj\u00e1n.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI talked to him until I was blue in the face, telling him all the reasons he shouldn\u2019t run,\u201d Santa Fe\u2019s Rep. Trujillo was quoted by The New Mexican as saying to his nephew.<\/p>\n<p>Nu\u00f1ez, D-Hatch and the Agriculture and Water Resources Committee chairman, drew two primary challengers \u2013 Apodaca and Nicole Parra-Perez. Republican Debra White also filed for the seat.<\/p>\n<p>Apodaca, one of the more controversial politicians in recent memory in Do\u00f1a Ana County \u2013 who was investigated for allegations of bribery years ago but never charged \u2013 was quoted by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/las_cruces-news\/ci_14689833\">Las Cruces Sun-News<\/a> as saying that he is \u201csimply answering what his heart, friends and constituents are asking him to do \u2013 get back to public service.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Other legislative filings<\/h3>\n<p>Some other interesting legislative candidate filings:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 State Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=HEGOL\">Brian Egolf<\/a>, D-Santa Fe, is being challenged in November by Brigette Russell, a <a href=\"http:\/\/newmexicoindependent.com\/author\/brigetterussellauthor\">former columnist<\/a> for the New Mexico Independent.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=HVIGR\">Richard Vigil<\/a>, D-Las Vegas, who has faced <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/05\/gop-wants-rep-richard-vigil-to-resign\/\">some controversy<\/a> during his tenure, is facing three primary opponents.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=HJEFF\">Sandra Jeff<\/a>, D-Crownpoint, is facing two primary challengers, including former Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetailsArchive.aspx?SponsorCode=HHARR\">Irvin Harrison<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=HRODF\">Ben Rodefer<\/a>, D-Corrales, drew three Republican opponents.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=HSTEI\">Jeff Steinborn<\/a>, D-Las Cruces, drew two Republican opponents.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=HHAMI\">Dianne Hamilton<\/a>, R-Silver City, is facing Trent Lee Petty in a primary.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=HCHAL\">Eleanor Chavez<\/a>, D-Albuquerque, is facing Matthew Archuleta in a primary.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=HMCCO\">Kathy McCoy<\/a>, R-Cedar Crest, didn\u2019t file for re-election, but two other Republicans filed for her seat.<\/p>\n<h3>PRC races<\/h3>\n<p>And on the Public Regulation Commission front:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 As expected, Land Commissioner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmstatelands.org\/default.aspx?PageID=2\">Pat Lyons<\/a>, who is term-limited from seeking re-election, filed to run for the District 2 seat on the PRC. So did Republican Robert Corn and Democrat Stephanie DuBois.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Former Dona Ana County Commissioner and congressional candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/billmccamley.com\/\">Bill McCamley<\/a>, a Democrat, filed to run for the District 5 seat on the PRC. So did one other Democrat \u2013 Ronald Rees, who was later disqualified from appearing on the ballot.<\/p>\n<p>Apodaca had previously said he was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2009\/12\/gilbert-apodaca-%e2%80%98likely%e2%80%99-to-run-for-prc\/\">\u201clikely\u201d to run<\/a> for this PRC seat this year. Guess he changed his mind.<\/p>\n<p>Six (yes, six) Republicans filed for the PRC\u2019s District 5 seat \u2013 former PRC member Tony Schaefer, Otero County Commissioner Doug Moore, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jamieestrada.com\/\">Jamie Estrada<\/a> of Las Cruces, former Dona Ana County Commissioner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dkentevans.com\/\">Kent Evans<\/a>, Ben Hall of Ruidoso and Robert Maez of Las Cruces.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kob.com\/article\/stories\/S1055534.shtml?cat=10106\">Embattled<\/a> District 4 PRC Member <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmprc.state.nm.us\/commissioner4.htm\">Carol Sloan<\/a> drew four Democratic primary challengers.
