He wants to limit campaign contributions to $2,300 per individual per election cycle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RfccAe6EksI\/AAAAAAAABhg\/dbzmrXTAMM4\/s1600-h\/Legislature.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RfccAe6EksI\/AAAAAAAABhg\/dbzmrXTAMM4\/s200\/Legislature.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5041529102486770370\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Versions of <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s gift ban have been approved by the House and Senate. Contribution limits have been approved by the House and are on the Senate calendar for consideration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Despite his opposition to such massive gifts, <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> accepted contributions totaling $75,000 from Coast Range Investments for his re-election campaign last year. He also accepted airline travel valued at $10,000 from the company in his role as chair of the Democratic Governor\u2019s Association.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The airline travel wouldn\u2019t be subject to the state reform proposals, but the reasons to limit such gifts still apply.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The capital outlay bill approved by lawmakers on Monday includes funding to upgrade the Interstate 25 interchange near Belen, where the donor plans a 6,000-acre project, the news service reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The massive gifts the company gave you will make your approval of this funding questionable, governor. It\u2019s why you\u2019re proposing the limits on contributions and gifts, remember?<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Amanda Cooper, <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s re-election campaign manager and current staffer for his presidential campaign, gave this tired statement to the news service:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThe governor does not make any decisions or is not impacted by ay contributions, whether that\u2019s a money contribution or event or whatever,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">With all due respect to Cooper, there\u2019s an obvious contraction here: The governor believes other politicians in the state can be influenced by contributions and gifts. If that weren\u2019t the case, why would he fight for limits?<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Despite that, <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> appears to somehow think he\u2019s above temptation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Politicians are human. That\u2019s why massive gifts should be illegal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I know <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> is quite confident in his own abilities, but I don\u2019t see any reason to believe he is a god who is immune to the human temptations other politicians face.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Yet it\u2019s hard to explain his hypocrisy any other way. That\u2019s part of the reason many of his ethics reform proposals are getting a cold shoulder in the Senate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">If the session ends without significant ethics reform, <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> will share the blame.<span style=\";font-family:Garamond;font-size:14;color:black;\"   ><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gov.
