Bill Richardson.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Senate voted 27-6 today to accept minor changes made to the bill by the House, which approved the ban Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/_session.asp?w=com&#038;year=07&#038;chamber=S&#038;type=++&#038;number=10\" target=\"_blank\">Senate Bill 10<\/a>, sponsored by Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=261&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Mary Jane Garcia<\/a>, D-Do\u00f1a Ana, makes the first offense a petty misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in prison. A second offense is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in prison, and further offenses are fourth-degree felonies punishable by up to 18 months in prison.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Once <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> signs the bill, which he has said he will do, <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Louisiana<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> will be the only state in the nation that doesn\u2019t outlaw cockfighting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A statewide ban on cockfighting is now awaiting the signature of Gov.
