Bush after nine Senate Democrats voted with Republicans today to kill a resolution that would have started the process.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The resolution, if approved by the Senate and House, would have forced the U.S. House of Representatives to debate whether Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney should be impeached.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The vote to kill the resolution was 26-13. Technically, the Senate didn\u2019t vote on whether to approve the resolution. The vote was to reject the Senate Judiciary Committee report that sent the bill to the Senate floor for a vote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RfCbzBXOvCI\/AAAAAAAABa0\/2iRk66wK2RU\/s1600-h\/Bush,+George.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RfCbzBXOvCI\/AAAAAAAABa0\/2iRk66wK2RU\/s200\/Bush,+George.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5039699283869088802\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>In addition to all Republicans present, Democrats <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=250&#038;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Ben Altamirano<\/a> of Silver City, <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=254&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Pete Campos<\/a> of Las Vegas, <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=256&#038;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Carlos Cisneros<\/a> of Questa, <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=263&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Phil Griego<\/a> of San Jose, <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=267&#038;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Tim Jennings<\/a> of Roswell, <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=279&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">John Pinto<\/a> of Tohatchi, <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=288&#038;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">John Arthur Smith<\/a> of Deming, <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=232&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">James Taylor<\/a> of Albuquerque and <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=326&#038;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">David Ulibarri<\/a> of Grants voted to reject the committee report and kill the bill. That\u2019s according to Santa Fe New Mexican reporter <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.freenewmexican.com\/terrell\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Terrell<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/_session.asp?w=com&#038;year=07&#038;chamber=S&#038;type=JR&#038;number=5\" target=\"_blank\">Senate Joint Resolution 5<\/a>, sponsored by Sens. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=309&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Gerald Ortiz y Pino<\/a>, D-Albuquerque, and <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=304&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">John Grubesic<\/a>, D-Santa Fe, would have forced the debate because House rules allow state legislatures to initiate impeachment hearings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The resolution accused the president and vice president of intentionally misleading Congress about the war in <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Iraq<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>, violating Americans\u2019 civil liberties through illegal wiretapping and torturing prisoners of war.
