{"id":1349,"date":"2007-03-05T13:04:00","date_gmt":"2007-03-05T19:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/03\/former-lcps-superintendent-diaz-gets-a-new-job\/"},"modified":"2007-03-05T13:04:00","modified_gmt":"2007-03-05T19:04:00","slug":"former-lcps-superintendent-diaz-gets-a-new-job","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/03\/former-lcps-superintendent-diaz-gets-a-new-job\/","title":{"rendered":"Former LCPS Superintendent Diaz gets a new job"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/Rexp-ygwN6I\/AAAAAAAABVc\/EkR3iFFWcmI\/s1600-h\/Diaz,+Sonia.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/Rexp-ygwN6I\/AAAAAAAABVc\/EkR3iFFWcmI\/s200\/Diaz,+Sonia.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5038518610552698786\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Former Las Cruces Public Schools Superintendent Sonia Diaz, who is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmcourts.com\/caselookup\/searchDetail.htm?caseId=D-307-CV-200700266&#038;caseTitle=&amp;amp;amp;fromDate=2000-01-19&#038;toDate=2000-02-19&amp;fromPage=psr\" target=\"_blank\">still appealing<\/a> her firing in district court, has been given a top job at one of the nation\u2019s largest school districts.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Baltimore County Board of Education in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">Maryland<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> approved Friday of the selection of Diaz to be the new associate superintendent of curriculum and instruction for the Baltimore County Public Schools.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">She will direct the division of curriculum and instruction for the district\u2019s 169 schools, which serve 106,000 students, according to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bcps.org\/news\/display_release.asp?id=1436\" target=\"_blank\">news release<\/a> from the district, which is the 24th largest in the nation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIn adding Dr. Diaz to my administrative team, I am bringing to our school system an individual with more than 30 years experience in K-12 education,\u201d Baltimore Superintendent Joe Hairston said in the release. \u201cDr. Diaz has demonstrated the capacity to address the types of challenges and opportunities we face in delivering quality curriculum to our children in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Baltimore<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Diaz will begin her job April 1. The news release\u2019s only mention of Diaz\u2019s tenure in <st1:city st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:city> is that she \u201cmost recently served as superintendent of the Las Cruces Public Schools in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state><\/st1:place>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Diaz was fired last year following a school board investigation into a host of allegations involving her treatment of district employees.
