Republican gubernatorial candidate also says opponent Allen Weh can\u2019t win in November<\/h4>\n

Republican gubernatorial candidate Pete Domenici Jr.<\/a> says it was \u201cintellectually dishonest\u201d of opponent Allen Weh<\/a> to distort a comment he made on the radio by leaving out its context.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor him to have ripped out of context an innocent sentence was a half truth and reflects the same type of dishonesty we are trying to rid Santa Fe of,\u201d Domenici said in an interview. \u201cThis was, in my opinion, clearly a deliberate distortion of the context.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier in the week, Domenici gave an interview to 770 KKOB-AM<\/a> talk show host Jim Villanucci. Weh followed up with a news release highlighting a statement Domenici made during the interview \u2013 and providing an audio clip of it.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the transcript of what Weh provided:<\/p>\n

Villanucci:<\/strong> Are you the best person to win the general?<\/p>\n

Domenici:<\/strong> The general is going to be an extremely difficult election. The perception out there that somehow any of the five candidates can and should win the general, I disagree with strongly.<\/p>\n

Villanucci:<\/strong> Who can\u2019t win?<\/p>\n

Domenici:<\/strong> I don\u2019t know if I want to say particular names of who can\u2019t win.<\/p>\n

Villanucci:<\/strong> You obviously have a feeling on that. You said that not all of you can win, so somebody can\u2019t, and you think you can. So, who can\u2019t?<\/p>\n

Domenici:<\/strong> Actually, I would even include myself in the group that can\u2019t.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The problem is that Weh left out a significant part of the last statement from Domenici. The full statement was, \u201cActually, I would even include myself in the group that can\u2019t. I don\u2019t think this is a sure thing by any stretch of the imagination.\u00a0It is going to be extremely tough. So I, that\u2019s why I don\u2019t want to go in the negative. I\u2019m saying I can win and I\u2019m concerned with the perception I\u2019m hearing that says any of these five can win. I don\u2019t agree with that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Domenici said in today\u2019s interview that what he was trying to say on the radio was that \u201cit\u2019s possible that all of us could lose\u201d in November to Diane Denish<\/a>, the Democratic candidate for governor.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, I don\u2019t think it\u2019s possible everyone can win,\u201d Domenici said.<\/p>\n

In a news release that went out shortly after the interview, Domenici made clear who he doesn\u2019t think can win.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr. Weh cannot win. He has alienated too many Republicans and voters across the board,\u201d Domenici said.<\/p>\n

Update, 10 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Weh spokesman Christopher Sanchez released this statement:<\/p>\n

\u201cMr. Domenici should take responsibility for the words he says.
