Votaw replaces John Schwebke, who did not seek re-election, and Phillips replaces Sharon Wooden, who she defeated in last month\u2019s election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The two were sworn in by District Judge Robert E. Robles at the LCPS administration building. Before swearing them in, Robles told the new board members that \u201cthe work they begin is of the highest importance. It must not be forgotten that school board members hold perhaps the most important public trust \u2013 our children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RedtAhjtAcI\/AAAAAAAABSc\/VSWBayw-cfY\/s1600-h\/Votaw,+Bonnie.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/RedtAhjtAcI\/AAAAAAAABSc\/VSWBayw-cfY\/s200\/Votaw,+Bonnie.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5037114564012736962\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>\u201cI know they are keenly aware of this awesome responsibility, and I wish them well,\u201d Robles said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Votaw, 63, is a retired educator and school administrator. She has bachelors and masters degrees in English and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction, all from <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">New   Mexico<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">State<\/st1:placetype> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">University<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Votaw taught at <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Mayfield<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placetype st=\"on\">High School<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> beginning in 1969 and later served in a number of administrative positions for LCPS, including staff development, reading coordinator, advanced educational services facilitator and director of secondary curriculum. She was director of curriculum assessment and instruction in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Lewiston<\/st1:city>,  <st1:state st=\"on\">Idaho<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> from 1995 to 2002.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Phillips, 49, is an engineer. She has bachelors and masters degrees in mathematics from <st1:placename st=\"on\">Ball<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">State<\/st1:placetype> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">University<\/st1:placetype> in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Muncie<\/st1:city>, <st1:state st=\"on\">Ind.<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> and a doctorate in engineering from NMSU. She has been a member of the Desert Hills Elementary School Advisory Council and the LCPS District Advisory Council.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">She has worked for Lockheed Martin Corporation for past 15 years as a software and systems engineer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two new members of the Las Cruces Public Schools Board of Education were sworn in today.
