He called police to help with a suicidal man the county identifies as his cousin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Barela challenged an officer\u2019s attempt to use a taser on the man, but Barela disputes the criminal charges.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The decision to reinstate Barela follows an internal investigation that found \u201cminor lapses\u201d in booking protocol at the jail, but concluded that Barela \u201cwas not found to have sought any special treatment,\u201d a county news release states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Essentially, Barela wasn\u2019t photographed when he was originally booked, and had to return later to complete the process.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Padilla has ordered additional training for booking staff \u201cto ensure that all arrivals to the facility are treated exactly the same in the future,\u201d the release states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">As to the charges, the news release notes that they are misdemeanors, and states that Barela \u201cwill keep management apprised of all pertinent developments in his case as it moves forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The county has no further comment at this time, Padilla said, other than to say that Barela \u201chas the full support of management and is fit to resume his duties.
