In that city, incumbent Trustee Pilar Madrid also wasn&#8217;t re-elected.<\/p>\n<p>In Farmington, challenger Sean Sharer defeated longtime incumbent District 2 City Councilor Mary Fischer in a four-way race, the Farmington Daily Times <a href=\"http:\/\/www.daily-times.com\/story\/news\/politics\/elections\/2016\/03\/01\/sean-sharer-defeats-incumbent-mary-fischer\/81165272\/\" target=\"_blank\">is reporting<\/a>. Sharer is\u00a0chairman of the San Juan County Republican Party and the son of state\u00a0Sen. Bill Sharer. Fischer had held the city council\u00a0position from 1982-1986 and again from 1992 until now.<\/p>\n<p>In Hatch, voters ousted two incumbent trustees &#8212; James L. Whitlock and Noel E. McConnell, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/story\/news\/local\/2016\/03\/02\/hatch-voters-oust-two-incumbent-trustees\/81195212\/\" target=\"_blank\">according to the Sun-News<\/a>. In Bosque Farms, challenger\u00a0Wayne Ake defeated incumbent Mayor\u00a0Robert G. Knowlton, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.news-bulletin.com\/news\/municipal-election-results\/article_ef16b7b6-e023-11e5-ad17-f77026e23dd9.html\" target=\"_blank\">according to the Valencia County News-Bulletin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Voters in Valencia County also\u00a0kicked out of office a municipal judge in Peralta,\u00a0David Young, who was defeated by Tracy Aragon, and the District 1 city councilor in Los Lunas,\u00a0Amanda Perea, who was defeated by\u00a0Christopher Ortiz, the News-Bulletin <a href=\"http:\/\/www.news-bulletin.com\/news\/municipal-election-results\/article_ef16b7b6-e023-11e5-ad17-f77026e23dd9.html\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In Grants, the incumbent District 3 councilor, Ruben J. Sandoval, <a href=\"http:\/\/media.wix.com\/ugd\/be618c_2b1f1cd294864776a0794e9e33dd1da3.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">lost<\/a> to Cyndi J. Reynolds. In Aztec, incumbent District 1 City Commissioner Roberta Locke lost to Austin Randall, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.daily-times.com\/story\/news\/local\/aztec\/2016\/03\/01\/aztec-elects-commissioners-judge\/81160660\/\" target=\"_blank\">according to the Daily Times<\/a>. And in Questa, incumbent Village Councilor Miguel Romero lost his seat, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.taosnews.com\/news\/article_c1916be4-e021-11e5-981f-f3c1510dffba.html\" target=\"_blank\">according to the Taos News<\/a>.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In Alamogordo, voters replaced District 3 City Councilor Robert Rentschler with Susan Payne, the Alamogordo Daily News <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alamogordonews.com\/story\/news\/politics\/elections\/2016\/03\/02\/unofficially-boss-elected-mayor-rentschler-ousted\/81181386\/\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a>. And in Sunland Park, voters outsted District 5 City Councilor Isabel Santos, the Sun-News <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/story\/news\/2016\/03\/02\/sunland-park-perea-re-elected-mayor-giove-renteria-arguelles-mcbride-councilors\/81195808\/\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn&#8217;t that way everywhere.\u00a0Voters largely re-elected incumbents in cities including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/story\/news\/2016\/03\/01\/mesilla-frietze-re-elected-judge-arzabal-caro-trustees\/81191926\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mesilla<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hobbsnm.org\/files\/2016\/Unofficial%20Results%20from%20Regular%20Municipal%20Election%20March%201st%202016%20w%20numbers.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Hobbs<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.daily-times.com\/story\/news\/politics\/elections\/2016\/03\/01\/kirtland-re-elects-mayor-two-town-trustees\/81164746\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kirtland<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.daily-times.com\/story\/news\/politics\/elections\/2016\/03\/01\/lynch-pennington-keep-bloomfield-council-seats\/81167146\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bloomfield<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/733355\/news\/rio-rancho-voters-give-ok-to-9-million-road-bond.html\" target=\"_blank\">Belen, Los Ranchos<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.socorronm.gov\/announcements\/city-of-socorro-municipal-election-canidates\/\" target=\"_blank\">Socorro<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.currentargus.com\/story\/news\/2016\/03\/01\/ellis-wins-judge-race\/81177020\/\" target=\"_blank\">Carlsbad<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/rdrnews.com\/wordpress\/blog\/2016\/03\/02\/foster-edges-gonzalez-by-5-votes\/\" target=\"_blank\">Roswell<\/a>. And while voters in Sunland Park outsted Santos, they <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/story\/news\/2016\/03\/02\/sunland-park-perea-re-elected-mayor-giove-renteria-arguelles-mcbride-councilors\/81195808\/\" target=\"_blank\">re-elected<\/a> another councilor and Mayor Javier Perea.<\/p>\n<p>Voters in Espa\u00f1ola narrowly ousted one city councilor, District 4&#8217;s Cory Lewis, but they kept two other council incumbents and a judge, <a href=\"http:\/\/valleydailypost.com\/city-election-results\" target=\"_blank\">according to the Valley Daily Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Many municipal seats throughout\u00a0New Mexico were being vacated and had no incumbent. In Santa Fe,\u00a0Renee Villarreal won the\u00a0open\u00a0District 1 seat on the City Council, The Santa Fe New Mexican <a href=\"http:\/\/www.santafenewmexican.com\/news\/local_news\/villarreal-claims-victory-in-city-council-district-race\/article_5ef48c40-e031-11e5-a2be-6b34b948d0ce.html\" target=\"_blank\">is reporting<\/a>. And in Silver City,\u00a0Ken Ladner won an open, three-way race\u00a0for mayor, the Silver City Sun-News <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scsun-news.com\/story\/news\/2016\/03\/01\/ladner-wins-silver-city-mayors-race\/81191480\/\" target=\"_blank\">is reporting<\/a>.
