{"id":13188,"date":"2010-02-17T10:30:35","date_gmt":"2010-02-17T17:30:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/?p=13188"},"modified":"2010-02-17T10:30:40","modified_gmt":"2010-02-17T17:30:40","slug":"rejected-by-senate-holguin-says-shell-remain-an-advocate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2010\/02\/rejected-by-senate-holguin-says-shell-remain-an-advocate\/","title":{"rendered":"Rejected by Senate, Holguin says she&#8217;ll remain an advocate"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_13237\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignright\" style=\"max-width: 120px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13237\" title=\"Holguin, Neri\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Holguin-Neri.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Neri Holguin<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A day after New Mexico senators rejected Neri Holguin&#8217;s nomination to the state <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmenv.state.nm.us\/eib\/\">Environmental Improvement Board<\/a>, she says she&#8217;s &#8220;surprised and disappointed&#8221; by the 17 to 25 vote &#8212; especially since she&#8217;s been sitting on the board since last July.<\/p>\n<p>And, at least three senators say the vote appears to be in some part political payback for Holguin&#8217;s campaign work in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>She successfully managed victories for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=SGRIR\">Eric Griego<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=SKELL\">Tim Keller<\/a>, who defeated then-Sens. Shannon Robinson and James Taylor in hotly contested Democratic primary races.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/newmexicoindependent.com\/47781\/senate-rejects-nominee-revealing-rival-political-factions\">New Mexico Independent<\/a> reports that during the Senate debate on her confirmation, Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=SORTI\">Gerald Ortiz y Pino<\/a>, D-Albuquerque, scolded his colleagues for objecting to Holguin&#8217;s appointment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuddenly to develop scruples is disingenuous and incredibly hypocritical,\u201d he said about concerns over possible conflicts of interest.<\/p>\n<p>Griego also used the confirmation vote to express his support for webcasting, saying, \u00a0&#8220;people need to know what happens up here. I\u2019m learning a lot more about this body the more time I spend here.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">But Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=SRYAN\">John Ryan<\/a>, R-Albuquerque, told The Independent he was &#8220;afraid of politicizing this extremely important board&#8221; at the same time some groups are asking the EIB to roll back emissions to 1999 levels in the next 10 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Despite not being confirmed, Holguin said she &#8220;will continue to advocate for the responsible stewardship of our natural resources and the public health, safety and welfare of New Mexicans.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Holguin is currently managing Democrat <a href=\"http:\/\/raypowell4land.com\/\">Ray Powell&#8217;s<\/a> campaign for commissioner of public lands.
