Here\u2019s a rundown of the more curious statistics to emerge:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"container\">\n<p><strong>$4.38 million:<\/strong> What Democratic presidential candidate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.publicintegrity.org\/2015\/04\/30\/17261\/12-things-know-about-bernie-sanders\" target=\"_blank\">Bernie Sanders<\/a>\u00a0spent in January on his campaign\u2019s payroll alone \u2014 part of $34 million in overall expenditures last month. Republican front-runner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.publicintegrity.org\/2015\/06\/16\/17488\/9-things-know-about-donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\">Donald Trump\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0campaign payroll? Less than one-tenth that of Sanders\u2019 organization.<\/p>\n<p><strong>$3.5 million:<\/strong> Value of <a href=\"http:\/\/docquery.fec.gov\/cgi-bin\/forms\/C00495861\/1051523\/sa\/11AI\" target=\"_blank\">contribution on Jan. 11<\/a> from billionaire hedge funder\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/profile\/james-simons\/\" target=\"_blank\">James Simons<\/a> to Priorities USA Action, the main super PAC backing Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton. The money helped boost the super PAC\u2019s cash-on-hand figure to almost $45 million through January \u2014 and gives Sanders\u2019 new rhetorical fuel for his argument that Clinton is beholden to Wall Street.<\/p>\n<p><strong>$1,590,423:<\/strong> The pittance, by presidential candidate standards, that former Florida Gov.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.publicintegrity.org\/2015\/06\/15\/17142\/12-things-know-about-jeb-bush\" target=\"_blank\">Jeb Bush\u2019s<\/a> campaign raised in January. That\u2019s about one-fifth what fellow Republican White House hopeful Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.publicintegrity.org\/2015\/03\/23\/16947\/ted-cruzs-presidential-cash-hunt-commences\" target=\"_blank\">Ted Cruz<\/a> of Texas raised for the month.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>$1,078,875:<\/strong> Debt <a href=\"http:\/\/docquery.fec.gov\/cgi-bin\/forms\/C00580480\/1051282\/\" target=\"_blank\">owed<\/a> by Wisconsin Gov.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.publicintegrity.org\/2015\/07\/13\/17225\/12-things-know-about-scott-walker\" target=\"_blank\">Scott Walker&#8217;s<\/a> defunct presidential campaign, as of Jan. 31. More than 40 creditors are\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/docquery.fec.gov\/cgi-bin\/forms\/C00580480\/1051282\/sd\/12\" target=\"_blank\">awaiting payment<\/a> from Walker&#8217;s technically-still-active committee, including Google Inc.,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2014\/12\/koch-brothers-rnc-113359\" target=\"_blank\">Koch brothers-backed<\/a> data firm i360 and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flsconnect.com\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\">telemarketing operation<\/a> FLS Connect LLC. Walker, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/post-politics\/wp\/2015\/09\/21\/scott-walker-suspends-presidential-campaign\/\" target=\"_blank\">suspended<\/a> his presidential bid in September, has <a href=\"https:\/\/assets.documentcloud.org\/documents\/2716554\/scottwalker.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">taken to selling<\/a> &#8220;sturdy and attractive&#8221; coffee mugs to\u00a0clear his campaign&#8217;s financial obligations.\u00a0Several dozen people made debt-slashing contributions of more than $200 in January, including various members of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/lauriebennett\/2011\/12\/26\/the-ultra-rich-ultra-conservative-devos-family\/#40c92562c86b\" target=\"_blank\">DeVos family<\/a> \u2014 storied GOP megadonors whose patriarch, Richard, co-founded Amway and owns the Orlando Magic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>$424,955:<\/strong> What Republican Rick Santorum&#8217;s presidential campaign\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/docquery.fec.gov\/cgi-bin\/forms\/C00496034\/1047082\/sd\/12\" target=\"_blank\">collectively owed<\/a> vendors on the eve of the Iowa caucuses. These consultants, fundraisers and data workers in part have themselves to blame, though: Santorum&#8217;s 2012 presidential campaign remains <a href=\"http:\/\/docquery.fec.gov\/cgi-bin\/forms\/C00496034\/1047082\/sd\/12\" target=\"_blank\">more than $450,000 in debt<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>$372,809:<\/strong> Amount of money pro-Bush super PAC Right to Rise USA raised in January. It proved to be a disastrous development for the group, which raised more than $117 million last year but could do little more than burn through its once-prodigious reserve as Bush\u2019s campaign flailed \u2014 and, on Saturday night,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.vice.com\/article\/jeb-bush-drops-out-after-fifth-place-finish-in-south-carolina\" target=\"_blank\">ended<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>$250,000:<\/strong> That\u2019s how much the pro-Cruz super PAC Stand for Truth\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/projects.propublica.org\/itemizer\/filing\/1051124\/schedule\/sa#SA11AI.4302\" target=\"_blank\">collected in January<\/a> from a California-based limited liability company called Children of Israel LLC. Formed in June 2015, Children of Israel LLC <a href=\"http:\/\/docquery.fec.gov\/cgi-bin\/fecimg\/?201601319004994329\" target=\"_blank\">donated $150,000<\/a> last year to Pursuing America\u2019s Greatness, the super PAC that supported Republican <a href=\"https:\/\/www.publicintegrity.org\/2015\/05\/05\/17180\/9-things-know-about-mike-huckabee\" target=\"_blank\">Mike Huckabee\u2019s<\/a> failed presidential bid. Reached by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.publicintegrity.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Center for Public Integrity<\/a>, Shaofen \u201cLisa\u201d Gao, a real estate agent who is listed on state records as the LLC\u2019s registered agent, declined to discuss the company or its political contributions. \u201cI don\u2019t want to make any comment,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>$204,000:<\/strong> What Trump\u2019s campaign spent during January producing hats, many emblazoned with Trump\u2019s slogan, \u201cMake America Great Again.\u201d (They <a href=\"http:\/\/shop.donaldjtrump.com\/product-p\/dtc-odtrh-rd.htm?gclid=COXQ5t-GiMsCFYEjHwodlzANQA\" target=\"_blank\">sell<\/a> for $25 a pop on the campaign\u2019s website.) The campaign spent another $708,000 on other swag: t-shirts, mugs, stickers and related freight.<\/p>\n<p><strong>$99,889:<\/strong> Cash that Democratic presidential candidate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.publicintegrity.org\/2015\/04\/12\/17107\/12-things-know-about-hillary-clinton\" target=\"_blank\">Hillary Clinton<\/a> herself <a href=\"https:\/\/assets.documentcloud.org\/documents\/2716812\/Screen-Shot-2016-02-20-at-11-53-47-PM.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">contributed<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0her campaign in January \u2014 part of more than $468,000 she\u2019s contributed since last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>$32,907:<\/strong> Amount American Crossroads, the Karl Rove-backed granddaddy of super PACs,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/docquery.fec.gov\/cgi-bin\/forms\/C00487363\/1051525\/\" target=\"_blank\">raised<\/a> during January. Despite its meager haul, the group still has about $2.9 million in the bank and may accept unlimited donations at any juncture.<\/p>\n<p><strong>$2,700:<\/strong> Amount self-styled \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/opinion\/latest-columns\/20150423-trammell-s.-crow-its-not-easy-being-a-green-republican.ece\" target=\"_blank\">green Republican<\/a>\u201d Trammell S. Crow, son of Dallas real estate tycoon <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/01\/16\/business\/16crow.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\">Trammell Crow<\/a>, contributed on Jan. 26 to Democrat\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.publicintegrity.org\/2015\/05\/29\/17303\/9-things-know-about-martin-omalley\" target=\"_blank\">Martin O\u2019Malley\u2019s<\/a> presidential campaign. O\u2019Malley <a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/martin-omalley-suspends-presidential-campaign\/story?id=36653920\" target=\"_blank\">quit the race<\/a> on Feb. 1.<\/p>\n<p><strong>$1,000:<\/strong> The amount some Nevada prostitutes are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2016\/02\/hookers-for-hillary-clinton-fundraising-219397#ixzz40YTROvBD\" target=\"_blank\">reportedly<\/a> asking clients to donate to Clinton&#8217;s campaign in exchange for \u2026 extra services. Legal? Maybe so: It could fall under a volunteer services exception to campaign finance law, said Kenneth Gross, a political law attorney and former chief of the Federal Election Commission\u2019s enforcement division. But matters get complicated. If the prostitute is working for a corporation \u2014 say, a bunny ranch \u2014 the value of her time and use of corporate facilities could be considered an improper in-kind corporate contribution to the Clinton campaign. If her employer isn&#8217;t coordinating with the campaign &#8220;the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.publicintegrity.org\/2012\/10\/18\/11527\/citizens-united-decision-and-why-it-matters\" target=\"_blank\">Citizens United<\/a><\/em> ruling would kick in allowing unlimited corporate independent expenditures,\u201d Gross says. \u201cThat would be legal, but the corporation would have to report the value of services since soliciting campaign contributions for the services provided would likely constitute express advocacy.&#8221; Moral of the story? Campaign finance law applies to everything.<\/p>\n<div class=\"container\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<div class=\"body-copy-inner\">\n<p><strong>309:<\/strong> Number of people, couples or entities \u2014 Hillblazers, if you will \u2014 that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hillaryclinton.com\/about\/hillblazers\/\" target=\"_blank\">have raised<\/a> at least $100,000 for Clinton\u2019s campaign, as of Jan. 31. Bold-faced names include Vogue editor Anna Wintour, lobbyist Heather Podesta, media mogul Fred Eychaner and Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>16:<\/strong> Number of days after its formation that a company called \u201cDecor Services LLC,\u201d which materialized Jan. 12, <a href=\"https:\/\/projects.propublica.org\/itemizer\/filing\/1051194\/schedule\/sa#SA11AI.6721\" target=\"_blank\">contributed $250,000<\/a> to the pro-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.publicintegrity.org\/2015\/06\/30\/17582\/9-things-know-about-chris-christie\" target=\"_blank\">Chris Christie<\/a> super PAC America Leads. As the Center for Public Integrity has previously reported, limited liability companies formed in Delaware are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.publicintegrity.org\/2015\/03\/31\/16944\/rapper-backed-group-illustrates-blind-spot-political-transparency\">essentially black boxes<\/a>. The only name connected to Decor Services LLC in public records is the Wilmington-based Corporation Service Company, a firm that serves as a registered agent for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/service\/csc\/about\" target=\"_blank\">thousands of corporate entities<\/a>. Campaign finance rules say contributions cannot be made in the name of another. Thus, companies cannot be created solely to mask individuals\u2019 political giving. Is that what happened here? \u201cThere is definitely reason to believe the law has been violated,\u201d said Paul S. Ryan, an attorney at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.campaignlegalcenter.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Campaign Legal Center<\/a>. \u201cThe Campaign Legal Center will likely file a complaint on this.\u201d Christie <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2016\/02\/breaking-news-chris-christie-expected-to-suspend-presidential-campaign-219074\" target=\"_blank\">exited the race<\/a> after the New Hampshire primary.<\/p>\n<p><strong>$0:<\/strong> What GOP megadonor Sheldon Adelson gave to presidential super PACs in January \u2014 much to the chagrin of candidates who\u2019d love the billionaire casino mogul\u2019s aid.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-$16,339:<\/strong> Net cash Huckabee\u2019s campaign had (or didn\u2019t) the night before the Feb. 1 Iowa caucuses, in which the Republican vowed to \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/big-government\/2016\/01\/07\/mike-huckabee-plan-finish-first-iowa\/\" target=\"_blank\">finish first<\/a>.\u201d Huckabee <a title=\"http:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/story\/news\/elections\/presidential\/caucus\/2016\/02\/03\/iowa-gops-final-tally-confirms-order-finish-huckabee-gets-delegate\/79794344\/ Cmd+Click or tap to follow the link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/story\/news\/elections\/presidential\/caucus\/2016\/02\/03\/iowa-gops-final-tally-confirms-order-finish-huckabee-gets-delegate\/79794344\/\" target=\"_blank\">finished ninth<\/a>.
