The newest discussions center around the possibility of 9th Judicial District Attorney <a href=\"http:\/\/www.da.state.nm.us\/districts\/ninth\/index.html\">Matthew Chandler<\/a> running against Democratic Attorney General <a href=\"http:\/\/nmag.gov\/office\/Divisions\/EO\/kingbio.aspx\">Gary King<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the past several weeks, we have been contacted by many people who want to see Matt Chandler run for attorney general,\u201d state GOP spokeswoman Janel Causey said. \u201cWe\u2019ve discussed the race with\u00a0him and believe he would be a phenomenal candidate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are impressed with his credentials and encouraged by the conversations we\u2019ve had with him,\u201d she said. \u201cWe expect him to make a final decision soon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chandler, whose jurisdiction includes Curry and Roosevelt counties, was elected to the position in November 2004. The immediate resignation of his predecessor led Gov. Bill Richardson to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.governor.state.nm.us\/press\/2004\/nov\/111904_4.pdf\">appoint Chandler<\/a> to the job that month, so Chandler took office a few weeks before his elected term was scheduled to begin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am confident that he will be an effective D.A. who will protect the citizens of the 9th District,\u201d Richardson said at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Chandler has spent the majority of his legal career as a prosecutor.
