{"id":1225,"date":"2007-02-06T23:01:00","date_gmt":"2007-02-07T05:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/02\/absentee-ballots-could-change-gadsden-races\/"},"modified":"2007-02-06T23:01:00","modified_gmt":"2007-02-07T05:01:00","slug":"absentee-ballots-could-change-gadsden-races","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2007\/02\/absentee-ballots-could-change-gadsden-races\/","title":{"rendered":"Absentee ballots could change Gadsden races"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">With only absentee ballots left to be counted, there are still a few close races in the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Gadsden<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placename st=\"on\">Independent<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">School   District<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Races in the <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las   Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> and Hatch districts are over.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In Gadsden District 1, incumbent Manuela Huerta has 166 votes, or 76 percent, to challenger Luz Vargas-Troncoso\u2019s 53 votes, or 24 percent, but there are more than 300 outstanding absentee ballots in this district.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In Gadsden District 2, incumbent Jennifer Viramontes has 164 votes, or 50.9 percent, to challenger Rodolfo Franco\u2019s 158 votes, or 49.1 percent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In Gadsden District 4, incumbent Daniel Castillo has 105 votes, or 62 percent, to challenger Elva Flores\u2019 64 votes, or 38 percent. I don\u2019t know whether there are enough absentee ballots to make a difference.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In Gadsden District 5, incumbent Charles Gonnell has 71 votes, or 39.4 percent, to challenger Craig Ford\u2019s 77 votes, or 42.8 percent. Another challenger, Robert Zinsmaster, has 32 votes, or 17.8 percent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Elections Supervisor Lynn Ellins said absentee ballots will be tallied soon. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With only absentee ballots left to be counted, there are still a few close races in the Gadsden Independent School District.
