Bill Richardson said he isn\u2019t worried.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:state st=\"on\">California<\/st1:state>, <st1:state st=\"on\">Florida<\/st1:state>, <st1:state st=\"on\">Illinois<\/st1:state> and <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">New Jersey<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> are likely to move their primaries up to that day, making it a \u201csingle-day, coast-to-coast battle in some of the most expensive advertising markets in the nation,\u201d the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/01\/25\/us\/politics\/25vote.html?_r=3&#038;oref=slogin&amp;amp;amp;amp;pagewanted=print&amp;oref=login\" target=\"_blank\">New York Times<\/a> reported last week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The fear among many is that such a change would make winning a presidential primary even more expensive and would favor the most popular candidates. It also makes the four, smaller January primaries \u2013 in <st1:state st=\"on\">Iowa<\/st1:state>, <st1:state st=\"on\">Nevada<\/st1:state>, <st1:state st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:state> and <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">South   Carolina<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> \u2013 less significant, many political analysts are saying. Several presidential campaigns are scrambling to rethink their strategies to accommodate the changes that will likely be approved by state legislatures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">During a visit to <st1:city st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:city> on Monday, <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said he isn\u2019t worried, and isn\u2019t shifting his campaign strategy significantly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI\u2019m in it for the long haul. I\u2019m going to focus on every state, every voter,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said. \u201cBut I\u2019m going to focus on the first four states.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">As for a potential, massive primary day in early February, <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said he\u2019s prepared.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI\u2019ll campaign then too,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The reality is that few are sure what the changes will mean. While many think the concept of a \u201csuper primary\u201d in February has the potential to kill the campaigns of less-known candidates, others say candidates who don\u2019t do well in the first four primaries are more likely to press on in the hopes of a recovery on Feb. 5, the Times reported. Others think campaigns that don\u2019t build momentum from January wins going into Feb. 5 will be forced to quit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> was a leader of the charge to move <st1:state st=\"on\">Nevada<\/st1:state> and <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">South Carolina<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> onto the January primary calendar for Democrats in an attempt to get a more diverse sampling of the nation in the early and most important contests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The move appears to have opened the floodgates. As the Times reported, <st1:state st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:state> was so offended when <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">Nevada<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> was moved ahead of it that it may move its primary up to sometime in December.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThis is completely out of control,\u201d William F. Galvin, the <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Massachusetts<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> secretary of state, told the Times. He leads the National Association of Secretaries of State committee that wants to stop the change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201c\u2026 it\u2019s never been as bad as it has been this year,\u201d he told the newspaper. \u201cIn <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Hampshire<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>, they\u2019re going to be singing Christmas carols and voting.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Though politicos across the nation are rethinking presidential campaign strategy following the news that four large states will likely move their primaries up to Feb. 5, 2008, Gov.
